PETA Angered Over Dre’s Furry ‘Beats’

PETA Angered Over Dre’s Furry ‘Beats’

PETA is peeved over big-time hip-hop producer and artist Dr. Dre’s new limited edition Beats by Dre headphones, according to AllHipHop.com.

The $695 fox fur earmuff headphones are a product of Dre (Andre Young) collaborated with Oscar De La Renta.

GlobalGrind.com got ahold of the kindly fiery letter that PETA sent to Dre. Here it is:

January 6, 2012

To: Dr. Dre, c/o Kate Licht

From: Michelle Cho

Dear Dre,

I hope this message finds you well. As you may know, PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters dedicated to the protection of animals. You have many fans here.

We’re writing today after reading about your new fox-fur headphones design with Oscar de la Renta. We wanted to get in touch to urge you to keep fur and exotic-animal skins out of your Beats by Dre designs. Foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals—including cats and dogs—are bludgeoned, genitally electrocuted, strangled with wire nooses, drowned, and even skinned alive for their pelts. Most animals killed for their fur are slaughtered in China, where there are no penalties for those who abuse animals on fur farms.

I hold a doctorate myself, and in my opinion the deliberate omission of Dr. Dre's hard-earned honorific in the salutation is an abominable and willful insult.

Also, those ear-thingies are the fugliest items I've ever seen...

And I think it's an insult because I love hip hop especially Dre's productions.

I'm alright with plain black JVC earbuds. This is one-percenter luxury crap. There's no reason to kill an animal (even by hunting) to make luxuries. But clothing is justifiable if it's for winter - that's how humans survived the Ice Age and winter climates throughout history - rather than a fashion statement.

What's that, you pretty much just get paid for your endorsement and don't have much to do with it?

Make a donation to animal charity of your choice. You are "good at the rap game" but bad at headphone design if you got to use animal fur their. don't be a dummy.
