Trump Supporters Left Death Threats for Election Workers. We Called Back.
“Well, Tennessee is watching you, Mr. Rick,” a voicemail said. “I'm just right over the border. We're watching you all closely.”
Another one had a similar message: “Hey Rick, watching this video of you on YouTube. You need to get your act together or people like me really may go after people like you.” And yet another: “I hope they hang your fucking ass.” After the 2020 presidential election, hundreds of threatening messages, emails, and voicemails were left for elections workers across the country. This is especially true in election hotspots like Georgia’s Fulton County, where officials were harassed for months over the phone and by email. Local law enforcement has not held anyone accountable, and some workers fear continued harassment in future elections. Importantly, these calls weren’t anonymous. Instead, they were made by people from across the country who believe the false conspiracy that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump—and that election workers in Fulton County were to blame for massive electoral fraud. https://www.vice.com/en/article/5dg5p5/trump-supporters-death-threats-election-workers

Phone records by cell phone can be retrieved in serious criminal cases. This is such a case.

they do not care. And the worst thing is that the police, in many cases, are not investigating.

26. Also IPs can be traced to within like 5 feet of the actual location.
That of course is when you're using a fixed IP line or a cell phone. VPNs are a whole different story.

14. There should be federal protections specifically for election workers
If you're threatening an election worker, you're threatening democracy.

17. My experience
I am an Officer of Election (OE; The people who work in the polling places) in a rural VA county. After the Nov 2020 election, two of our senior OE quit.
Both were female. Both experienced. Both quit on Nov 2021 election night, in tears, at the registrar's office as they turned in their precincts' material. (In Virginia, we elect Gov, LtGov, and AttyGen, General Assembly in odd-numbered years -- 2019, 2021, 2023, etc.) Both reported the same thing: All day long, people got in their face, shaking fists or fingers and shouting: "You stole the election from last year (Nov 2020) -- by God you will not steal this one." We are a small rural county where everyone knows everyone else. The ladies knew some of these people. We talked with the sheriff -- a Republican -- who told us he would have deputies on call during the next election and he and his deputies will not tolerate this shit. Although he's a Republican, he's a straight shooter and I know he will do it. |

28. I hope you're right about your sheriff.
Gotta admit, though, my deep suspicions and mistrust went WAY up when I learned he’s a Republican. I’ve learned not to trust Republicans.

Maybe if a few of them have their phone and internet accounts suspended, that will get their attention.

29. Justice Dept. needs to prosecute, since GA police refuse to investigate:
Worst part of the story:
"In Georgia, it’s illegal to threaten bodily harm against someone. It’s also a federal crime to threaten someone online, by phone, email or engage in stalking. But VICE News found that the police department in Fulton County had not opened any investigations into the threats—including messages that repeatedly called for the explicit killing of election officials or their family members. Only one person has been federally indicted for threatening a Georgia election official. Across the country, only a handful of threats made against election officials have led to any arrests, according to a Reuters investigation. When VICE News submitted a FOIA to the Fulton County Police Department requesting documentation related to any investigations the department opened into death threats against Fulton County Election workers, VICE News was told there were no related records, because the police department has not opened investigations into any of the threats." |

I don't get how some low life butt kisser can be so caught up in a presidential election. When your guy loses, you take the time to call in threats to the election workers. It's asinine.
