There have been protests this week in St. Charles. They actually had to close the library because they were getting threats

(24,872 posts)Why bother with a Masters. I understand why doctors, nurses and librarians (and other front facing professionals) are quitting in droves.
It is like Rodney Dangerfield, they get no respect. Not at work and not online.

(26,046 posts)We really don't.
Ask the librarians on here how often this mask stuff happens.
Constantly.
If I could retire, I would, but I have a better part of a decade left to hit my pension. The public are just horrible now.

(51,129 posts)So it really is worse out there than the sample of the population using libraries.

I'm torn. While I fully support the mask mandate, I had no idea that anti-maskers used libraries.

She handled this so well. I am a librarian and everyday I ask people to wear masks and I get a lot of glares and eyerolls. It adds a complete level of unnecessary stress, worrying if someone will respond negatively.

(13,841 posts)The librarian was old enough to be his grandmother, which puts her in the age group that is most vulnerable to COVID.
Is that the way he would treat his own grandmother?

He's teaching her stupidity, as well as lack of caring for other people, herself included.
He could get so many wonderful books to read to his daughter, for free, but he chose his own insecurity. Pity.

(5,062 posts)She cares for people like that on a regular basis. She says in the very beginning they were in the minority. Now they outnumber decent people 5 to 1. Recently she had to duck a swing from some jerk that was arguing he did not have COVID and he would show her where to stick that needle. Having brothers, she is no slouch. She put down the shot, got into a karate stance, looked him in the eye and asked "Do you really want to take me on? Really???" He backed down. She says she has never run into so many rude and ignorant people in her life and it is really taking a toll on the people in the medical field that have to take care of them. It has gotten so it is a relief to have a normal, average patient.

(21,334 posts)But where is the tantrum? Isn't it a tantrum if someone screams, stomps their feet, or yells obscenities at others? He was cocky and tried to be intimidating, but I did not see a tantrum.
Kudos to the librarian for standing her ground. My sympathies to her for having to deal with BS like this.
My local library has hired a security guard to monitor the entrance. He also deals with people who try to remove their mask after they enter.
I saw the library's guard in action one day as the result of a complaint that I made when a guy at their computer lab had his naked nose hanging out.
The employee at the computer desk got the guard who told the guy to cover his nose or he would have to leave. He complied, but I told the guard that the guy on the computer would likely pull down the mask later. The guard said that the other employee was advised to get the guard again if the customer did it again and then the guard would remove him. I left anyway. Did not need or want the drama. But I was glad that they enforced the rules.

(24,236 posts)I would hardly call that a tantrum. Compared to some videos I've seen, he presented his incorrect argument in a civil manner.

(8,851 posts)First he says that she can "make the personal choice to say that it's not a big deal" but then he acknowledges that she obviously thinks it's a "big deal" because she is wearing a mask. Soooo...what exactly did he think her personal choice was going to be regarding him coming in maskless?

(62,379 posts)they seem to be so in love with themselves that surely they must want to let everybody see the magnificence that is them. So what if there are laws that people must be clothed? That doesn't apply to them! Their body, their choice!Right??
And why should they use toilets. If they feel like taking a shit, just drop the drawers in the middle of the library and take a shit! Their body, their choice!
