Dogster blog: Could a Dog Derail Mitt Romney's Presidential Campaign? (comments worth following)

http://dogblog.dogster.com/2012/01/13/could-a-dog-derail-mitt-romneys-presidential-campaign-gingrich-hopes-so/

Six comments so far, only one attempting to defend Romney:

This is very old news. He loved his dog enough to take it on vacation with him. It went and returned unharmed. He did not dump it at the pound on the way out of town or leave it locked in the garage for 2 weeks with a bowl of water & food. Will this cause logical people to vote for a different candidate. I don’t think so. This country faces way more important issues than this.

Which got this response:

I loathe him anyway. Politics aside, people don’t get points for not doing worse things to animals than they did.

Oh the dog was only on the roof at least he didn’t drop the dog off at the pound. Really…at least he didn’t set the dog on fire either.

Look the guy put that dog deliberately up on the roof because he didn't have room in the car for it. He did it. He admited it. He is guilty of animal cruelty. IF you didn't have room for your dog - Don't Take Him. Then he made some excuse like the dog liked it. BS Mittens. What a load of crap.

the kids weren't getting any bathroom breaks, either! Cruelty to animals and children! No wonder the Republican Establishment loves this guy!

the force with which this story affects dog people.

There is a significant demographic across all political categories of passionate dog lovers who will react strongly to this story, and for whom it will be reason enough to rule out ever voting for him.
