Intel semifinalist Samantha Garvey's dad confirms new home
Whether she wins the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search, Brentwood High School senior Samantha Garvey garnered a huge personal victory Friday -- a new home for her homeless family.
The 17-year-old Garvey hinted at the news during a Friday-morning appearance on "Good Day, New York" on Fox 5.
Her father, Leo, confirmed the news later, telling Newsday: "I'm elated. I don't know what to say. I'm in shock."
Samantha Garvey said her mother, Olga, turned to her and said: " 'Sammy, this is all because of you'."
"This is what I wanted," Sam said. "It is so amazing."
Leo Garveys confirmed the news about the house before a morning news conference hosted by new Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone Friday at Brentwood High School. Leo Garvey said he did not know where the house was located.
