Hollywood has a long history of "Roast" comedy... Smith has a thin skin

In fact... Amy Schumer was even more brutal than Chris Rock...

She lit up DiCaprio hard... but he didn't walk up and assault her.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/oscars-live-oscars-hosts-savagely-roast-stars-during-ceremony/G6IBFXEZUGQCN7KJTDJKTKJALI/

Schumer on DiCaprio:

"He's done so much to fight climate change, and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends. Because he's older? And they're younger? Get it?"

Schumer on Will Smith:

Referencing Will Smith and Jada's famously, ahem, "relaxed" relationship, she asked Will to join her and insisted, "Jada said she's OK with it," which left the couple squirming.

I am also beginning to believe Will Smith and his wife are both arrogant assholes who think they are better than everybody else.

never watch these award shows anymore. Haven’t in many years. Unfortunately you hear about them for days afterwards. I just turn the channel when they talk about them.

Will and Jada have a very complicated marriage which he seems far more invested in than she is. Chris has also cracked jokes about them in the past which have seemingly hit below the belt. Will took it personally and overreacted by a mile. Had he bit his lip or even if he had simply loudly booed the joke, that would have been more than acceptable. Once it became physical, it turned into a losing argument for him. He probably won’t lose his Oscar but the chances of him ever being invited back to ceremony or being nominated again and probably nil. He may even lose his voting privileges in future years. He should be lucky Chris decided not to press charges.

Booing, as you said. Heckling. Ask Chris when the real comedian was coming out, etc.

After the joke earlier essentially about him being a kept husband, then laughing when someone made a joke about his wife, I get the impression someone said something to him along the lines of "Are you going to let him talk about your wife that way?"

His "apology" was filled with creepy statements about "Love makes you do crazy things" and that he was following God's will or something.

IF Rock knew about Pinkett-Smith's alopecia, it was VERY tasteless. If it was just a joke about her being bald, it was a misread of the audience (and not that good a joke either - Black Panther would be a better reference). I'd be surprised if he didn't know, since he made a movie about black womens' hair, but his reaction after getting cold-cocked made it sound like he really didn't understand what was wrong.

Demi is obviously an incredibly attractive woman, shaved head or not. So it's not even that insulting.

struggles, made a video showing his “murder”, given him a derisive nickname, but Pete hasn’t punched him.

Haven’t heard anyone here saying how bad it is that Kanye mocks Pete’s mental health. Fascinating. Wonder why?

But to be fair, Kanye making fun of someone else's mental health is too ironic to take seriously. Not to mention, Pete has gone to town on Kanye's mental health as well, albeit in a much funnier vein.

The show sucked for the reason that presenters spent more time on derisive and offensive stand up schtik. A wast of time for anyone interested in seeing people rewarded for exceptional work.
