And then take every Russian Citizen over the age of 18 on a tour of Ukraine... as it is right now.
Just like Germany after WWII.

(26,548 posts)to have belonged to the military during this time period will be subject to detention and interrogation, and possible war crimes trials, if they set foot in, or even fly in airspace over, any civilized part of the world.
This would apply to the entire military chain of command, as well as members of other associated government agencies.

(8,049 posts)Ukraine didn't invade, didn't kill them, didn't sponsor terror against them. A smaller, weaker neighbor who shares a lot of the same ethnicity and history--it makes no sense.

(8,049 posts)in general--I think they hate Mexican immigration. Tons of Americans visit Mexico, tons of Americans are of Mexican descent. There is no desire on anyone's part here to invade and kill Mexicans who aren't trying to immigrate. There is no desire to "end" Mexico as a country or an ethnicity.

(86,076 posts)I have lived near the Mexican border several times and there is a serious faction of Mexican haters, want them dead or enslaved or sent back to their country. And there are plenty who are far from the border who feel exactly the same.

(8,049 posts)There's absolutely zero interest in attacking them militarily, however. Or taking their land, or their resources. Contrast that to Russians saying Ukraine "shouldn't exist" as a country.

(11,095 posts)and heavy duty racism. Undoubtedly there are such elements out there (although they're a pretty small minority). But to extrapolate from that to Americans hate Mexicans and Mexico ...
My experiences just haven't squared with that.

(86,076 posts)My experience was well informed as I was often told that I was Mexican and treated according to the beliefs of those who decided I must be Mexican because I don't appear pearly white. Trust me, even my blonde siblings, same two parents, never had such experiences as I did. You know it when it's directed straight at you, much like the recognition one has when looking up the barrel of a shotgun ready to be fired.
I don't even have a decent grip on Spanish but that didn't matter, my skin is dark enough for bigots, nothing else matters, they will decide what you are. Unfortunately, a lot of the loud ones live near the border.
I have not been to one state in this country where I have not encountered racism so I can't truly identify where they concentrate but I know there are quite a few who live in states along our southern border.

(26,548 posts)Ukraine dared to gravitate out of their orbit and into the Western orbit. It's like Russia saw her dating other men.
At least that's what seems to make the most sense to me.

The Russians need to learn the hard way, because other ways aren't working.
