1. I've been yelling about Novorossiya since this war started.
It's clearly what Putin is talking about when he says "Ukraine is not a real country". Russia believes it belongs to them since Catherine the Great conquered it from the Ottomans, and the Communists assigning it to the Ukraine Socialist Republic in 1922 was a historical error that they have a right to correct.
![]() If you google "Novorossiya", the images page will lead you to some very unpleasant places. Note: I don't know that the Novorossiyan "bars" flag is based on the confederate battle flag. Is that actually confirmed? |

3. I know that - I'm asking if it's actually based on the Confederate Stars and Bars.
The tweeter is asserting that. I'm doubting it.
It's like saying the flag of Chad is based on the flag of Romania. They're virtually identical but it appears to be a coincidence. |

4. When it comes to Putin, I don't believe in coincidences.
He has been meddling in US politics for decades. He knows what he is doing.

5. I agree with that
Probably admires the south of the past.
Wants it recreated here too. |

8. Yes, Putin identified the fault lines in the American psyche.
And made them prominent.

and a house full of crazies. He and my governor are kindred spirits. (FL.)

10. Yes, Putin and GOP goals are identical.
Permanent total power, autocratic regime, suck all the money out of the economy, and white christian minority rule.

12. Will you buy Wiki's explanation? It's based on the Russian Navy Flag.
The battle flag is based on the naval jack of the Imperial Russian Navy. Oleksandr Chalenko, who worked as a political journalist in Kiev, described the flag and explained its symbolism in an item published by Izvestia on 20 March 2014:[5]
"It's a red flag with a blue Saint Andrew's cross. The flag of the Russian Navy. Of the Navy, which played a prominent military role in the emergence and establishment of historical Novorossiya." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Novorossiya#:~:text=The%20battle%20flag%20is%20based,a%20blue%20Saint%20Andrew's%20cross. 13. Doesn't explain why out of thousands of flags, Putin chooses this one for Ukraine.

6. It would make perfect sense
If variations of that flag did not go back to Peter the Great and predate the Confederacy by over 150 years

9. Exactly.
And if our banksters back their banksters, they’ll bring that home to the USA.
