The committee hearings are going to be a mix of witnesses and exhibits.

We are also going to learn things that have not been reported yet. The hearings will have no effect on hardcore Trump nuts. They will have a big effect on democrats, moderate Republicans and independents who don't follow the news closely.

The hearings are going to control the news cycle for weeks. Almost everyone is going to hear about the hearings one way or another.

of unconnectable dots.

It's going to take a lot more than the most recent-- Sean Hannity and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows exchanged more than eighty text messages between the 2020 election and Inauguration Day. Meadows texted Hannity at one point saying “we can make a powerful team.” Jan. 6 committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin, only a “small fraction” of the information they have has been made public. 04/29/2022.

Or, Meadows asked Hannity to remind rubes to vote for trump right before the election.

Or, Republican Rep Lee texted, "We have to use every legal and constitutional tool available."

If that is what the show turns into, we're in trouble.

3. I don't think the public hearings are going to make one bit of difference.

Both sides are already locked into their positions and will not be changing their minds.

Even worse, the hearings won't have any impact on the people in power in DC. The committee's refusal to subpoena elected officials, opting for friendly letters instead, is a complete fucking joke of cowardice. That alone tells me the committee doesn't really want to get to the bottom of things if they will not turn over every possible stone in the investigation.

Then there is the total disaster of Garland's refusal to bring a case against anyone of significance. DoJ is only going after little people and they have shown no inclination to pursue anyone higher. The lack of an indictment against Meadows for ignoring the subpoena despite the committee's referral to DoJ MONTHS ago speaks volumes about DoJ's complete and utter disregard for justice and accountability.

The people in power are doing nothing but protecting other people in power and it is disgusting. America as we know it is forever tarnished.

5. The people who might be swayed are the casually-interested, lightly-informed voters.

And those are the ones we really need to reach: that small percentage of undecided independents.

In 2016, those voters were swayed in the final days of the campaign by announcements of a bullshit re-opening of investigations into HRC's emails, and the election went to Trump. In 2022, I hope they'll be swayed by a summer-long expose of widespread Republican criminality and treachery.

7. Nobody knows what's going on with Meadows. You don't know what The DOJ is doing or not doing.

There may be a very good reason he has not been charged, Yet! Meadows is ground zero for the coup attempt. He was involved in everything and that means he knows everything.

that compells folks to tune in again and again to move the needle enough to matter to midterms. Representatives really need to quash their urge to pontificate as much as they normally do or independents and moderate republicans are going to turn the channel. These are people who sure as hell don't want to be lectured to by democrats about how horribly off kilter their ideology has become. I'd rather see Kinzinger take the lead over Cheney who has presidential ambitions and would pose a huge threat if elevated enough to enable a 2024 run but she's in the best position to sway what's left sane of the right wing. This is not an elitist left wing college lecture, it's television and it has to be presented in such a way it eeks into the skulls of the morons who love their infotainment.

Learn from the impeachments. Let your egos go and do it right to save this experiment!
