I note that a group of crows is called either a "congress" or a "murder," neither of which sounds like a compliment. They are an interesting bird, though not particularly popular around bird feeders. When they land under mine, the Rhode Island red rooster charges across the lawn in a rapid waddle that reminds me of a Tyrannosaurus rex, and apparently the crows view him much the same. Yet, when a hawk circles my herd of birds, the crows will chase the hawk away. Life is filled with complicated mysteries to ponder on a sunny day while gardening.
As I pull a never-ending number of weeds around my hedge roses, I watch all of the roosters are a bit more aggressive in their approaches to the hen population. This at times includes the Guinea hens, which creates some fighting with the Guinea cock. I shall not say these birds resemble humans, for anthropomorphism is frowned upon. But a lot of humans do, in fact, resemble these birds.
Is not a church full of closed minded, anti-science gather in a hen house of worship called a "flock?" Do not conservative republican males have sick views on sexuality, that includes "legal" dominance over women's bodies? At what point might they demand the chicken eggs be declared fully chicken. But they are not ..... they are eggs, maybe fertilized, maybe not. Just eggs.
I do not want this flock of superstitious seagulls to determine limitations upon my daughters, sisters, nieces, cousins, neighbors, or females I have never met. It can be hard to get it across to them, though, as they want the same limitations for all females ...... except the rich, who will find safe, affordable abortions upon demand. So the struggle is clearly cut out for us. It follows the same pattern we followed in 2018 and 2020.
Let's consider the nature of the beast we must confront. I have spoken about the need for the good people to join together, like the fingers on a fist, to protect our rights. Our opposition is also a fist. One finger is the superstitious christians, another the white nationalist militias, and a variety of the people that you didn't like in school, and dislike today. That's their fist.
We know their three most glaring weak points: history, science, and the rule of law. We must beat them over the head with history, science and law. They run candidates for school boards, local, state, and national office in an attempt to prevent the truth from being taught about the history of Native Americans' experience, and of Africans held in slavery. Many believe the earth was created 6,000 years ago, and demand that this fiction be taught in schools. Some participated in illegal behaviors such as the insurrection, to try to use the force of criminal behaviors to get their own way.
I read a post yesterday, where a Good Person said that they are tired. Been fighting the Good Fight for fifty years. A number of people identified with that. Including me. I'm tired, I have aches and pains, and too many bills to pay. I struggle with doubts, and the temptation to withdraw into the space of my house and property and ignore the horrors going on around me. Yes, I do. But I also recognize that this is the exact time to be an active participant in that Good Fight, that it is most important to do so now.
Let's scramble their eggs.

But today my fight is with the weeds, and I have so many starts I need to transfer to beds.
May the path of Many Blessings open before us.

(73,536 posts)I've been weeding all day. The dog, cats, and chickens seem to either enjoy watching me, or wonder what the heck I'm doing! I am a heck of a lot slower than I used to be, but still take the same pleasure in recognizing the Earth is alive. Perhaps the only "problem" I have when working outside is identifying more and more things to tend to!

I've been getting in shape -- relatively speaking, of course -- as I will become a grandfather later in the summer. And giving a lot of thought to what world I'll be handing down to my grandson.

The image of a hand of the beast we must confront. The pointer finger is the religious zealots, the middle finger is the white nationalists. Others represent the money behind the destruction of democracy, another is the media. I guess another are the enemies of this country who want us to fail.
There has been a movement within the republican party for decades to damage, even destroy, the federal government. Today, it represents the vast majority of that party. It is important, I think, to recognize they were the kids we couldn't stand in school. I didn't take any shit from them then, and I won't today.
People such as Steve Bannon are the ones plotting this out, directing their fist. Law & order demands he be incarcerated for his crimes.

(73,536 posts)There are many times that I wish I had the strength and energy that I did as a young man. But then I remember that it is my turn to be an old person, engaged in that same Good Fight. I need more periods of rest, but that is okay.

(2,541 posts)It is that which is going to have to save us again. It was only because of the massive, historical, voter turn out in last election that we got Biden and not a 2nd DT term. 81 million votes for Biden was more then DT and his crew could cover over, misdirect, challenge legally.
Hopefully voters realize how close we are to having a 2nd DT term or Desantis
and will once again show up in massive numbers since Garland and the Dems have done absolutely nothing to hold anyone accountable or secure voter rights.

(73,536 posts)And people need to keep in mind that we almost had a second Trump term, not because he "won," but a large, organized group wanted to overthrow the federal and state governments. We have the issues needed to get a massive turnout.

(6,443 posts)👊🏽💪🏼 🍳 Although I would only add that people of faith who vigorously reject the malignancy these right-wing white, supposedly evangelical Christians who have been attempting to have their singular, cult delusions become the law of the land will also be an important part of this egg scrambling effort. These aberrant cultists cannot be permitted to claim the supposed moral high ground when their delusions are neither moral, nor in any way representative of the beliefs of all religions as they would have people believe.

(73,536 posts)I love the teachings of Jesus. But I prefer those who recognize the need to take him off the stained glass windows, and put those teachings into practice. And that is, by no coincidence, the practice of a large amount of Christians. I'm encouraged to see more of them speaking up.
benfranklin1776
(6,443 posts)I know of no one who has done more for humanity than Jesus. In fact, there is nothing wrong with Christianity The trouble is with you Christians. You do not begin to live up to your own teachings.
So yes it is heartening to see others of the Christian faith who believe its the first duty of a Christian to love and to ease suffering speak out on this and against this mindless barbarism masquerading as a divine crusade, as well as leaders of the Jewish and the Islamic faiths joining in this effort.

(73,536 posts)There was also a priest in Albany NY, Jim Murry (or Murphey? it's been years) who worked on jail reform. He was in state office until the pope said "no" to politics. So he and a nun/sister resigned from the church and got married. I liked working with him, and Quakers that went into jails and prisons to teach conflict resolution. The Quakers eventually expanded their program to include concepts that the women from Onondaga taught them. All of this influenced my work in the county jail, when myself and a co-worker did mental health work ..... individual and group.

We can't afford to be tired. The more wacky shit they come out with the more desperate we must recognize that they are. They are the minority. We have many more fists than they do and we have to use them.
They are tired, too. So we are tired yet fully capable of clear thinking. They are tired and confused in their thinking. The advantage goes to our side.
