A right wing extremist I know said this about Obama:

He promised to fix the economy, but has done nothing.

My response was that it was very clever of him to blame Obama for a disaster caused by Republican ideology and the implementation of that ideology. And that even to this date, Republicans are sabotaging Obama at every turn.

He immediately said, "Look, if you're going to lay blame on Republicans, let's just stop discussing this now."

Typical Repukes. They f*ck things up, then blame others.

A friend of mine I've known a long time ( back when he was center left, and I was center-right ) His complaint was nearly the same as the one you spoke to mentioned. Also he likes to say "He hasn't DONE anything!" a lot. Then speaks of how he's sick of Republicans and Democrats arguing. I try to say why, just as you did, the reasons the arguments are taking place, and what's at stake, and who is trying to do what, or prevent, as the case applies. He then immediately snaps and gets combative "He's gonna take our guns away, just you wait and see!!" WTF???

trying to even understand, must less try to convince republicans otherwise.

I know SO many really great, really kind, decent, hard working and giving people who are republicans, and there just is something about how they are wired that they just have this visceral hatred of pretty much any democrat. It isn't just BO, it is any D.

I know people who hated Clinton with a vengence when he was president, who now don't think he is all that bad.

They just want Rs in office, bottom line.

make everyone into a Muslim, force all women to have at least one late term abortion, to take all the money from rich people and give it to me, to take away all the guns, to make disband our military and make them serve with the UN military forces, to legalize drugs, and to make the US Flag a field of red only since we will all be commies or something.

His response to that question you posed (which I've asked him before) is that Democrats didn't allow Repukes to push right wingnut policy all the way. He feels that under a 100% rethug government, our country would bloom. Sure. Right. It would grow fungus.

As a response to this. The unfortunate part is that it is partially true so since we typically argue honestly it is harder then to make a convincing case.

That is what infuriates me about the reptilians. When they deserve 99% of the blame- they insist that it is 50%/50%.

"does nothing," since the magical free market will fix it all. The less Obama does the better should be his way of thinking.

It is typical of right wingers to want to stop all discussion once they are challenged.

They have a talking point ( or points ) and are able to spew them, but since they are low-info types or ideological hacks, cannot defend them, and get mad as hell if they're put in a position when they have to...Since there's nothing there. Referring to the neo-rightie friend of mine I was speaking about above, I'm aamazed at how poorly prepared he is to think things through. He's so easy to lick in a debate because he's so willingly uninformed. When challenged, his answer is, 9-times out of 10, "I'm just sayin'!". What's THAT mean? He must use that term a dozen times/day everytime he gets in a fix.

Makes assertions he can't back up, and then refuses to look at all the evidence that I can show him.

The hatred is in-penetrable. Logic, facts, reason, history, none of it matters. Any meaningless insult like socialist will do: Hate makes no sense unless you're a hater, and then it's the only thing that makes sense.

Some of these people aren't idiots. I mean, they can read and write, have gone to college, etc. They KNOW. So why do they defend this bullshit?

Does it all go back to the studies done that show the right wing brain is terrified and needs authoritarians and control to feel comfy?

Or vote in favor of the $700 billion bailout before becoming President. Or disburse $350 billion in bailout funds after taking office?

Or appoint other Goldman Sachs personnel?

Is there anything that President Obama has done that is admittedly his fault?
