(9,946 posts)While the gun industry rakes in profits, the American public is left to pay for needed police protection, private security, the judicial and penal system, victims' medical treatment and all the other expenses related to gun ownership and gun crime. The industry has also been immunized from any legal liability.
Firearms would be unaffordable if the gun industry was forced to pass on these external costs to gun buyers and users. The only way the gun industry remains profitable is by privatizing their profits while socializing their losses.
