So many of us here who call ourselves progressives and support an equitable society have seen this coming.
They purposely dumbed down America.
No more Civics courses taught in schools.
Higher Education berated.
Bigotry, Sexism, Homophobia allowed to foment, and in some instances, sanctioned.
And more there chickens are ready to roost with a 6 member SCOTUS.
They are ready to test us by taking away a right that has been given.
Overturning Roe will be their first big test.
If they do that, and still win both Houses in November, they will be emboldened to go further.
They want a white Christian male led Autocracy and will use Trump and other con men like DeSantis to achieve their goals.
And will we fight back?
And, if so, how?
They have most of the guns and have been “jonesing” for a second Civil War.
So gird your loins, my friends.
No matter what the 1/6 Committee delivers and how Garland proceeds, there will be quite a reaction.
Will America survive it?
Probably not in our current form.

1. Good grief

Bullshit that civics isn’t taught in schools. All but ten states require at least a semester of it to graduate from high school. Here are each state’s actual requirements:

Bigotry of all kinds has been part and parcel of America since it’s founding. It didn’t spring up out of nowhere a few years ago. We sorta fought a war over it back in the 1860s. How about those Civil Rights protests back in the 50s and 60s? Do you think black people were going to all that trouble because white people liked them and were just confuse and thoughtless?

No matter how many guns the ammosexuals have, they can’t hold more than two at a time. And most of them a) are lousy shots and b) would load their diapers if a liberal or brown person pointed a gun right back at them. Yes, they have too many guns, especially the kind no one needs. But they’re in for a rude awakening if they think that will have the rest of us cowering in terror so much that we let them take over.

6. A lot of the states in that list have fairly general "social studies" requirements...

...that are not particularly specific about what actual civics education actually is--or the requirements are optional, or it's "a little Column A, a little Column B", etc. Actual "civics" classes have declined to a large degree. Classes in US History, World History, etc. are great, but "civics" used to be a separate and unique subject. When I was in high school, it even included a section on the labor movement. I think something like that would be hard to find in any high school today.

That's not to say that civics is gone--it's not--but we could really use the older approach that doesn't just shoehorn it into the general ed requirements.
