The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying, he wrote in a Los Angeles Times op-ed. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation.

As you may remember -- though it seems so long ago -- Stirewalt was the first to call Arizona for Joe Biden. Thus, he was attacked by Trump and the cult, and eventually fired in January by Fox News. Curious timing, eh?
Stirewalt will reportedly be testifying during tomorrow's January 6 Committee hearing. Safe to say that Fox won't be carrying it live. But it should be an outstanding Committee presentation tomorrow morning, focusing on Trump & Co.'s planning to steal the election, and how this led directly to the insurrection on January 6.
I'm looking forward to the hearing, and the discussions here.
I think this hearing will kick Trump's fat, pale ass.

already set the DVR for both the hearing and for Rachels show at 6:00 p.m. Were expecting an overnight guest, and that will skew the schedule a bit.
I hope the aftermath of tomorrows hearing will be popcorn-worthy.

(90,642 posts)Of course there are some advantages to this I will never be tempted to watch Morning Joe and Mika Mouse because when they are on I am fast asleep. When I want to watch Rachel Maddow, she comes on at a convenient 6:00 pm in my time zone.

Thats one big reason Republicans want to damage our schools.

(73,534 posts)one of the most interesting things will be finding out what other republicans begged for pardons. I don't expect we will find out tomorrow -- likely a later hearing -- but that is such an important issue.

(16,925 posts)For you 'kids' out there (yeah, it was a long, long time ago - Watergate!):
"More chilling was Ehrlichmans advice to Dean about L. Patrick Gray III, whose nomination as director of the FBI was stalled because members of the Senate Judiciary Committee werent getting satisfactory answers from him to their questions about Watergate. Well, I think we ought to let him hang there, Ehrlichman told Dean. Let him twist slowly, twist slowly in the wind. (Gray twisted for more than a month before his nomination was withdrawn.)"

(15,536 posts)CBS did a piece on CBS Sunday Morning about Watergate. Interesting piece. I can't offhand remember the guy they interviewed but at the end the interviewer asked the guy what's different these days between the Jan. 6 insurrection and Watergate. He said "Fox News and today's Republicans put party over country."

(54,341 posts)For a former Fox broadcaster to admit, in sworn testimony on live TV, that he and all Fox broadcasters are given scripts off of which to report their fake news, it would be a beautiful thing for the USA to have permanently etched into its archives.

(1,182 posts)and his Merry Band of Batman Villains, is pretty much how I saw it.
It was all just a shallow "show" for them, and damn the consequences.
A pretentious mockery of all we thought we stood for.
Grifters and miscreants crashing the D.C. "party" for four long years, culminating in the Animal House conclusion on January 6th.
It would be pathetic, were it not for the nightmares we now must endure, trying to forestall more unraveling.
In his classic 1973 book, "The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness," Erich Fromm wrote about the type os scum that surround a sociopath who comes to political power. That book describes the Trump cult extremely well.

(130,864 posts)You know, of course, about our 'congenital' dislike/horror of knowledge/understanding. . .
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

Even when McCain won the state Obama was popular with a lot of working class folks in the county.
