Corporate taxes: "If we raise taxes on corporations, what incentive will they have to make money other than the fact that it's the sole reason they exist." Colbert is clearly in the pocket of big business -- I bet his super PAC is funded by big businesses like hedge funds and casino owners.
Government helping Americans in need: "I believe in pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. I believe it is possible. I saw this guy do it once in Cirque du Soleil. It was magical!"
*
- Immigration: "This is America. I don't want my tomato picked by a Mexican. I want it picked by an American, then sliced by a Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian."
*
Muslims: "Every permit granted to a mosque is one denied to an American house of worship." Colbert is to the right of Newt Gingrich on this issue, and keep in mind Newt has compared Muslims to Nazis.
And let's not forget that Colbert admitted that he makes up facts to support his own political arguments, as he gleefully boasted once: "I can't prove it, but I can say it."

(110,159 posts)they sure are teaching us, step by step, in comedy, how the process works.

(47,675 posts)That's particularly true in acting. Think about how many stand-up comics have become great actors - Martin, Williams, Wilder, Radner, Pryor, Carlin, Akroid, Midler, etc. I think they do better in serious roles than they do in funny ones.
And hey, Al Franken is one of the best Congress critters we have. What's to stop Colbert? I don't want to see him unseat Obama, but he could at least wipe out the morons in the Republican clown car. I saw a few surveys a while back that showed he was considered a serious conservative by the very group of serious conservatives he makes fun of. That's a little frightening.

(62,683 posts)His message/statement was excellent, and when someone asked him (in an irritated manner) why he was there, his response was profound and very moving. They just dismissed him and it actually hurt me to see it.

...and some of the stunts pulled by the "Yes Men" have been very creative!
FYI, here's a You Tube listing of some of their pranks:

(62,683 posts)He (brother, who isn't as 'into' politics as I am) went 'whoa' when the attorney handed over the "reams of paperwork" that's required to start a pac.
I wish this message, and others, could get out there and teach people via comedy, how the system is stacked against us and that something needs to be done.
