(53,743 posts)What were all of those people thinking? That coup attempt was never going to stand even if they had occupied the Capitol that day and stopped Pence from confirming the EC votes.
There are too many institutional safeguards in government for such a high-profile coup attempt to stand. We all saw it on TV for God's sake. The media would've delved into questioning it, the courts would been involved, demonstrators would've taken to the streets for weeks.
It was too dumb to succeed. We're no third world nation where that could happen. Too many smart people checked in their critical thinking skills to follow trump's criminal scheme.
Just stupid.

(6,265 posts)"others" thought this train wreck up. Then to allay suspicion falling on them, came in telling the idiot poopy prez, "stop it, stop it". The oldest game in the book. Yes, Ivanka and Jarad along with Bannon et al included. I just don't believe d.trump was/is smart enough to have started this. Many in his inner circle wanted to hold on to their power and grift.

(53,743 posts)the sharpest knife in the drawer, was saying even back in 2015 and '16 that if he lost, the election was rigged. He undoubtedly was following some fascist playbook he read somewhere, but he was putting that meme out there.
Other players came up with the details after the '20 election loss, yes, but trump was vaguely aware of Goebbel's "big lie" technique and knew enough to keep repeating it over and over, which is what the technique is all about.
and he had the same 'advisors' in 2020 as 15-16. They wanted the power and grift then and after achieving it did not want to let it go.

(6,662 posts)It would be great to have an avalanche of indictments in late September and early October....dominate the news cycle for weeks....might be a few resignations from congress. Bummer.
