U.S. Supreme Court asks Maryland to bar protests at justices' homes

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court’s top security officer has asked Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to enforce laws barring picketing outside the Maryland homes of high court justices, saying protests and “threatening activity” have increased.

Supreme Court Marshal Gail Curley made the request in a July 1 letter to Hogan, noting that Maryland law prohibits people from intentionally assembling “in a manner that disrupts a person’s right to tranquility in the person’s home.”

“I am writing to request that the Maryland State Police, in conjunction with local authorities as appropriate, enforce laws prohibiting picketing outside the homes of Supreme Court justices who live in Maryland,” Curley told Hogan, according to a copy of the letter posted on the Fox News website.

Abortion rights activists began protesting outside the Maryland homes of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the Virginia home of Justice Samuel Alito Jr. after the leak in May of a draft opinion indicating the court would overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision guaranteeing women the right to an abortion.

Supreme Court: MD officials must enforce anti-picketing laws on abortion rights protests outside justices' homes

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court is asking key Maryland officials to enforce anti-picketing laws following protests outside the homes of high court justices who live in the state.

In separate letters to GOP Gov. Larry Hogan and Montgomery County County Executive Mark Ehrlich, Marshal of the Court Gail A. Curley said state and local authorities should be doing more to keep the justices safe.

"I would respectfully request that you direct the Maryland State Police to enforce Maryland and Montgomery County laws that squarely prohibit picketing at the homes of Supreme Court Justices who reside in Maryland," Curley write to Hogan on Friday.

Both letters were released to the media Saturday. Similar letters were sent to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Jeffrey MacKay, Board of Supervisors chair in Fairfax County, Virginia, which also sits next to Washington.

So they go home and feel better for a bit, but when they get into the office and start making those power grabs, their guts can clench.

Just get larger, louder crowds. 8,000 sound about right or maybe 10,000? 20,000?

tRump of the tiny hand, women haters club got 8,000.

Surely WE can do better than that?
