Would one not expect the White House, just up the street from the Capitol with the sitting pResident inside .... a lockdown should of been an immediate response.... I have never heard of the White House being in a lockdown by Secret Service or anyone during the insurrection...
I find this highly suspicious and odd.....To me, it is a clue right under our noses...

It's always been completely obvious that the whole thing was his ideas, his attempted coup, his attempt to assassinate pence, his attempt to subvert the constitution, his attempt to steal the election.
If this happened in any other country the media would have been completely unambiguous from the start that it was a coup attempt led by Donnie.

(37,985 posts)Like I said, it's a theory for me.
Just the same, like the OP, I find it unbelievable they would not put the WH on lockdown during the insurrection.

(25,225 posts)I would think that they'd be proud of the fact that they ordered a lockdown to protect the president and the people in the WH.
blogslug
(37,985 posts)However, I think the SS had the WH on some kind of lockdown that day. Maybe not "get the president and his family to the safe room immediately" lockdown. More like "No, Ms. McEnany. You may not leave the premises to get something out of your car." type of lockdown.
Why would they hide it? Maybe because TFG didn't want his MAGAs to know his security would have shot them on sight if they had tried to enter the White House.
Whatever's going on with the Secret Service, it stinks right now.

(32,596 posts)Only a small cadre ever got near Chump though. By the time of the coup, only about 20 agents that had access to Chump, and they all took orders from Tony Ornato who became one of Chump's key staff members.
That entire group (as far as I know) has been weeded out and either laid off or reassigned. None of that group are now protecting Biden or Harris or anyone in the White House.
I'm sure we'll find out more as the investigation continues.

Heres how CNN reported it:
As protesters gathered outside the White House Friday night in Washington, DC, President Donald Trump was briefly taken to the underground bunker for a period of time, according to a White House official and a law enforcement source.
The President was there for a little under an hour before being brought upstairs.
A law enforcement source and another source familiar with the matter tell CNN that first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, were also taken to the bunker....> end

(7,715 posts)I raised the issue on DU about the Senate calling the Secret Service in to testify before the impeachment conviction trial in early 2021, but a lot of folks shot me down.
Good heavens: Kenneth Starr called so many SS agents in during the Lewinsky investigation into President Clinton. They even called in the President's valet.
I am not sure why the Senate didn't do that during the impeachment trial. They could have gotten these people locked into testimony very early on, in an impeachment that was squarely directed at Trump's involvement in the January 6 insurrection.
Remember on September 11, 2001. VP Cheney was taken to a bunker after the attacks, and W was flown all over the middle of the US, as the SS refused to take him back to DC/the White House.
And on J6, the VP was under direct attack! And they didn't take Trump to at least the White House bunker??? Right.
I guess the 2022 version of the famous Watergate question would be as follows: "What did the Secret Service know about the insurrection, and when did they know it?"

(8,318 posts)The president knew there was no threat, the Secret Service knew there was no threat, the National Security Council knew there was no threat. The threat was by the Trump supporters at the Capitol, there was no threat to the Whitehouse, thus no need to lock it down.

I got some good work accomplished today for the congressional candidate that I'm volunteering for. We had some much-needed rain, along with strong winds. (73,510 posts)acquired a large collection of artifacts from upstate NY. I used to see the collector out in the fields. His widow recognized that they have more value than money ..... they help document 12,000 years of human history. She didn't want the collection split up, or leaving the area. She knew I had a good collection, including several sections of other local collections, and that my son will carry on after I'm gone (and his son after him). So I also spent time looking closer at many of the "new" ones.

(714 posts)Why would they lock down the White House? The insurrectionists were his people.
Also, the White House wasn't open for tours either. So the difference between locked down or not would be very subtle compared to what would be happening if they were expelling tourists.
About the only thing we'd get reports of is a further restriction of the movement of reporters inside the White House. And honestly, I don't recall any reporters saying, "I was inside the White House while this was happening."

I sense the 1/6 Committe has this in their plan of evidence, and I bet so does the DOJ..... tRump and the minions can't cover up this mega detail...Can't fix or lie about this now...
Especially when tRump has history of being swept off to the Bunker with family at the WH during the street protests of Summer 2020... The Summer 2020 Protests were essentially legal.....and he was in fear then but not when a full blown assault on the Capitol and the VP....just down the street.

(15,234 posts)This was against his will and there are some reports he got into a physical confrontation with the Secret Service Agents in his detail. These agents have retained legal council and have apparently scrubbed text messages and possibly other communication. Apparently the Secret Service in Pences detail was in fear for their lives.

(28,769 posts)on the day, nobody thought the insurrectionists were fans of anyone but trump. he'd already thrown a fit because they weren't letting armed people into his "rally."
no need to lock down the WH.
Igel
(35,275 posts)It takes 5 minutes to lock down, would have taken 20 minutes for the protestors to get there on foot. By car? 12 minutes, but that's assuming they were already in cars; to get to the cars, drive, park or crash them into a giant heap and walk to the WH ... Probably back to at least 20 minutes.
Strikes me as not doing something that probably wasn't considered urgent.
As for the protest out in front of the WH, that was right in front of the WH. Jump the fence, be inside in 3 minutes.
