Thalassophobia

"On the coast,
The long and tempting coast,
The cards on the table lie,
And a speech,
So eloquent in reach,
Was made by a passerby,
Passing by the way between
Here and left behind.
And it ripples through the crowds
Who run and cast their doubts
In the deep forbidden lake."
-- Neil Young; Deep Forbidden Lake

In the early morning hours, Donald Trump has a nightmare. He finds himself in deep, dark water, far beyond any point he has ever been at before. For Donald is uncomfortable in water. He attempts to locate a spot where he can stand, but he is in too deep. He is aware that some of his cult members are on the distant shore, waving the confederate rag, singing, "Lock her up!" Ron DeSantis can be heard laughing.

Suddenly, Trump feels something bump into his legs. Trump fears sharks. And this one has a warrent, and a shark with a warrent scares poor Donald greatly. He wakes up in a cold slime. Then he realizes he is in New York City, not deep, dark water. But he cannot rid his mind of the fear.

One can tell a lot about a person, including a president, by considering their relationship with water. My generation remembers John F. Kennedy, either swimming in or sailing on the ocean. We remember PT 109, and his heroics in deep, dark water. More recently, we have seen a trim, physically fit President Obama enjoying activities in water.

Pictures of Richard Nixon, walking on the shore wearing a suit and dress shoes, was intended to communicate one message. But it backfired in showing his discomfort with the water. Now we have an ex-president who exposed his lack of understanding of oceans when he suggested nuking gathering hurricanes in the Atlantic. This, I think, provides us with clues to how he will react to the FBI executing a search warrent at mar-a-lago.

For Trump is a sociopath. When under pressure before, he has always reacted by tossing the biggest bombs available to "enemies" -- those posing a threat to him. He lacks the capacity to have a conscious awareness that he has done wrong. Instead, he seeks to impose on any and all people but him. He will hug the American flag, claim victimhood, and obviously try to capitalize on this by seeking donations from his cult.

Each time he was able to avoid consequences for his misdeeds -- and that spans from his youth until Sunday -- He grew more confident. And every time, he would do something worse, fully believing he was above the law. But this is different. Indeed, poor Donald has never faced more pressure than he is dealing with today. He has never been tossed into this deep of dark waters.

Surely, Trump's legal team has advised him to be quiet. But Trump never listens to any lawyer thinking that they know the law better than him. And under pressure, he listens closely to a cluster of phantoms that inhabit his mind. Enemies everywhere. Conspiracies against him abound. Bad enough that many he believed were loyal, if only for fear, have betrayed him by testifying not only to the January 6 Committee, but have met with the Department of Justice, including the sharks in the FBI. Timing is always important.

Donald is not right in the head. He will be incapable of containing himself. Dogs bark. Cats meow. Cows moo. Danald attacks with verbs and threatens legal actions. Oh, wait! Legal actions against the FBI? Because he refused to hand over stolen property?

8. His mental illness is what keeps him

From being a successful fascist dictator. He can’t help tripping himself up.

He even passed a law that said being careless with government documents is a felony. Used to be a misdemeanor.

Dude is so busy criming he can’t remember laws he himself passed against such crimes.

His mental illness also won’t allow him to shut his mouth so he won’t piss off those with power over him.

He still seems to think he’s president and laws don’t apply.

I am willing to bet that Garland ties his more recent crimes to the ones he did when colluding with Russia.

He’s been on such a long crime spree that sometimes I forget that his presidency only started because of a series of crimes with Russia.

Time flies when you’re a criminal. He can’t escape justice forever. Sooner than he realizes he will have to face justice. But he’s so busy continuing his crime spree he doesn’t notice the noose tightening until it’s far too late.

Question for you. Do you think he was selling classified documents? I sure do.

23. Robert Hare

came up with the best definition of psychopath, and as the word implies, it is from within. The word sociopath implies the influence of enoviroment, but is not limited to that. Like yellow and blue make green, genetics and environment combine -- and are often, in fact, the same thing. Erich Fromm described the same dysfunction as "malignant narcissism." In my time, the three were recognized as one in the same. Dr. Bandy Lee confirmed that reality in the first interview I did with her on DU and Trump. February of 2020, if my memory serves me correctly.

Billing for insurance caused the false shift in definitions, for sociopaths can be monitored, but lack the ability to benefit from therapy or medications. There are, sadly, professionals who, in going by the new definitions, believe that they can make progress with therapy. There is no greater example of a sociopath conning another person.

I'll note that a very few community members have expressed disagreement with my using the term sociopath to describe Trump. However, I have not seen evidence of their scolding Mary Trump for using the exact same term.

14. I Knew the Meaning of Thalassophobia Even Before I Read This Posting.

It's fear of the sea or the ocean. I learned this from my researches on Thalassotherapy (ocean therapy) for my website on traditional holistic Greek Medicine, www.greekmedicine.net .

However, I would like to advise a spelling correction for the author of this posting: it is warrAnt, not warrent.

human being, including infants, that do not know the exact meaning of that wprd. I have, however, encountered individuals who do not respect the sacred right of the Irish to spell words however they feel like at a given moment. It's said that the Catholic priests of the Old Sod instruct such penitents to donate $100 to a democratic candidate of their choice's campaign, invest 20 hours volunteering for a campaign, and throw three "hail marys" in a hail storm.

I may correct it after finishing my house & yard work!

27. I note that

on their 1972 album "Sometime in New York City," we find Yoko's song "We're All Water." More, her "picture" of Nixon and Mao dancing naked. When some critics asked why, Yoko said that politicians should be forced to engage in public activities nude.

Now, I recognize that some here may think of Kennedy or Obama, and think that would have been a good thing. Yet the unintended consequences would include exposure to Trump's pre-corpse. We don't want that. ...... Well, maybe on the witness stand.

34. Your Neil Young quote reminded me of a song recorded by Stephen Stills

Begging your pardon for the long post. It seems to fit the times, again.

Word Game

Would you knock a man down if you don't like the cut of his clothes
Could you put a man away if you don't want to hear what he knows
Well it's happening right here people dying of fear by the droves
And I know most of you
Either don't believe it's true
Or else you don't know what to do
Or maybe I'm singing about you
Who knows
It's incredibly sick, you can feel it, as across the land it flows
Prejudice is slick when it's a word game, it festers and grows
Move along quick, it furthers one to have somewhere to go
You can feel it as it's rumblin'
Let emotions keep a tumblin'
Then as cities start to crumblin'
Mostly empty bellies grumblin'
Here we go
People see somebody different fear is the first reaction shown
Then they think they've got him licked the barbaric hunt begins and they move in slow
A human spirit is devoured the remains left to carrion crows
I was told that life is change
And yet history remains
Does it always stay the same
Do we shrug it off and say
Only God knows
By and by, somebody usually goes down to the ghetto
Try and help but they don't know why folks treat them cold
And the rich keep getting richer and the rest of us just keep getting old
You see one must have a mission
In order to be a good Christian
If you don't you will be missing
High Mass of the evening show
And the well fed masters reap the harvests of the polluted seeds they've sown
Smug and self-righteous they bitch about people they own
And you can't prove them wrong, they're so God damn sure they know
I have seen these things with my very own eyes and defended my battered soul
It must be too tough to die
American propaganda, South African lies
Will not force me to take up arms, that's my enemies' pride
And I won't fight by his rules that's foolishness besides
His ignorance is gonna do him in and nobody's gonna cry
Because his children they are growing up
And plainly tired of putting up
With bigots and their silver cups
They're fed up, they might throw up
On you
