Well according to the NBC poll the number one issue for Americans is threats to democracy.
Thanks J6 and thanks Merrick Garland.
That is all😀😀😀

(1,779 posts)because there is no link. No one knows with cryptic posts void of reference materials.
What were the questions? How were they worded. Who took the poll and where? How was it conducted?
All of that and a lot more matters when weighing the validity of a poll. But again, I can't know which poll it is for certain with no link.
Plus, I think I'm just particularly grumpy tonight and my tolerance is low. hehe, sorry.

(1,779 posts)that, I appreciate it.
IF that is the poll OP was referencing, then my suspicions were correct. This poll has nothing to do with the Jan6 panel and there is zero mention of it anywhere. The poll seems somewhat evenly split among Democrats/Republicans and it appears both sides answered this one kind of the same.
So yea, this poll has no correlation to the Jan6 committee at all, just as I suspected. There are millions of Republicans out there who think Joe Biden is somehow a threat to Democracy, just as there are millions of us who consider Trump the same.
Demsrule86
(68,556 posts)our Democratic Republic as the number one issue is wonderful.

(1,779 posts)look at the poll details.
There are just as many right-wingers taking that poll who are also claiming there is a threat to Democracy.
The premise is misleading, period. It shows absolutely no correlation to the hearings and investigation.

(128,896 posts)(from the main article link - https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/first-read/nbc-news-poll-57-voters-say-investigations-trump-continue-rcna43989)
And in order for people to have formulated that opinion, that means that you had a significant chunk of those polled who eiither watched the J6 Committee hearings and/or heard news stories related to what happened during those hearings because that is where the majority of the coverage of that day, what lead up to it, and the aftermath, have occurred.
"Democracy" is such an esoteric concept unless you are a history aficionado or a political junke (which the majority of people are NOT), so there is some "messaging" that has gotten through from somewhere, and the hearings, along with the news coverage of them, the arrests of the violent participants, and messaging about all of this, would be the source that would cause this amount of alarm in those polled.
Sympthsical
(9,073 posts)I have no idea why people think that 21% is all Democrats/Independents watching the committee. That is quite a leap and requires having very little idea of what the Right has been discussing on the daily since the 2020 election.
The hard Right thinks everything is rigged. Just look at their candidates.
Seeing people crowing about these numbers being a great thing is like, "Ooft. That probably isn't nearly as good a thing as you think it is."
Bubbles be bubblin'.
Edit: What are these demographics, lol?

25% of households with children (it's 40% typically). Did they just poll people hanging around online all day? Real weird poll.
Edit 2: They do ask about Jan 6 way down in the poll. The numbers haven't really changed significantly. Page 19).

(503 posts)Ask a Republican who is a threat to democracy and the answer is Democrats. Same question to Democratic members and you hear Republicans. Same question, two totally different viewpoints as to who is the threat.
IOW this poll says the voters are divided; something already known.

(4,913 posts)I posted the hearings would bust the investigations wide open. I think the committee surprised everyone with how well the hearings were presented, put together. They did an outstanding job.
Using only witnesses who worked for Trump was brilliant. The amount of work they did in a fairly short period of time was impressive.

(1,779 posts)looking for doom and gloom, I'm simply tired of time wasted on silliness.
It may be fun to gather around and speculate for fun, but when it comes to important information, I'm a facts oriented person, and I don't really like or appreciate misleading information. It wastes my time and everyone elses, and leaves a false sense of position on what are very important matters.
Just like most other people, I don't like bad news, I don't like it at all. But I still insist on getting a straight story so I can properly address what I am dealing with. Polls referenced in this manner are misleading. It most certainly does not show anything even remotely similar to what was claimed. I actually read the reference material because I was looking for GOOD news, not gloom and doom. But guess what I found?
And we shouldn't give a single damn what Trumpers think, they aren't going to change their minds for anyone, so straight to hell with them as far as I'm concerned. But we DO need to care what the swing voters think. Like it or not, those are the people who usually decide the elections in the end.

Looks like Mandela Barnes is doing well too in Wisconsin. Florida is looking good too...and dumb ass DeathSantis and his groupies just announced they intend to target the Cuban community and send those illegals home (idiots)...it is looking good. We could still lose but it is looking good. GOTV like your life depended on it because it does.

(7,431 posts)Since May, Ive been posting to a handful of discussion threads that the Dems will retain both houses of Congress in November because of a GOP trifecta of catastrophes: J6C hearings, coming indictments, and the Roe/Dobbs decision. And here we are.

(68,556 posts)did. And as for those who say the poll is made up of Trumpers who now say this is the most important issue...they always said that. This is new IMHO and looking at the sample and numbers, I think that we have voters who have been made aware of the security issues by the January 6 committee which I opined would never happen. I was wrong and damned glad that I was wrong.
And those angrily dismissing these polls are wrong too. And one wonders why on thread after thread, they do this....almost seems some have decided Democrats will fail in the midterms...despite all evidence. And no evidence is good enough for some if it shows good news for our side. No, it is overly optimistic and then polls must be picked apart. I can not understand this.

I yelled at them. Well, not yelled. I said they are interesting and important and every American should watch them if they want to be informed.
They all started watching and now can't stop talking about how great they were.
What was different was we didn't have to listen to the other side ask inane questions and try to derail everything. So I can understand if you expected that kind of hearing not wanting to watch. Hearings in which Trump republicans participate are a waste of time.
