Can President Biden fire all postal board members

Last edited Tue Aug 23, 2022, 02:03 PM - Edit history (1)

And replace them with enough members to outnumber deJoy and remove him? Does he have to appoint half Republicans and half Democrats but there is nine members but there is also a deputy.

Otherwise voting by mail will become an absolute shit show.

Since he can’t do it any other way I guess?

He won’t of course, because it would be seen as radical, but it is the only way probably to save our democracy. I am very frustrated that it’s probably not even being considered.

Would absolutely love to be wrong.

Turns out he can

Pascrell Calls on Biden to Fire Entire USPS Board of Governors
Postal governing body sat complicit to Trump and DeJoy’s spree of sabotage and subversion

Paterson, NJ, January 25, 2021
U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today wrote to President Joe Biden calling on him to fire the entire United States Postal Service (USPS) Board of Governors for their silence and complicity in Donald Trump and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s deliberate campaign to subvert vote-by-mail elections and destroy the Post Office.

“After several years of unprecedented sabotage, the United States Postal Service is teetering on the brink of collapse. Through the devastating arson of the Trump regime, the USPS Board of Governors sat silent. Their dereliction cannot now be forgotten. Therefore, I urge you to fire the entire Board of Governors and nominate a new slate of leaders to begin the hard work of rebuilding our Postal Service for the next century,” Pascrell writes President Biden.

As DeJoy’s efforts to dismantle mail sorting machines, cut overtime, restrict deliveries, and remove mailboxes slowed mail nationally, Donald Trump himself openly admitted that his administration was withholding funding for the Postal Service to make it harder to process mail-in ballots. Through it all, the Board of Governors did nothing to protect USPS.

Pursuant to Title 39, the USPS Board of Governors’ central responsibility is to “represent the public interest” and its members may be removed by the President “for cause.” Today, Pascrell urges President Biden to exercise that legal authority and fire all six sitting members of the Board of Governors for their dereliction and betrayal.

His nominees were confirmed just a little while ago, and the board now has a Democratic majority.

I just don't trust the mail to send it back, and a drop box is about 2 miles away from me.

Election mail is given priority. Dejoy has little to do with moving the mail. This is a not an issue to me.

He's a slimeball & he's a poor businessman (just ask XPO, who had zero use for him after they bought his little company), and he's a political hack.
But, the damage he's done is not irreparable, (and perhaps a bit overblown) and he's now hamstrung by a D friendly board.

What comes next for the Post Office’s proposed changes, including slower delivery and higher prices

We Mailed 100 Letters to Test The Postal Service. We Did Not Get Speedy Delivery

On Monday morning April 5, a GBH News editor dropped a letter into a mailbox outside the U.S. Post Office in Central Square in Cambridge. The letter was addressed to a family member in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nearly three weeks later, that letter has not arrived.

Another GBH News editor sent a letter the same day to Berkley, Michigan, from the massive Fort Point Channel post office. It took 14 days for that envelope to make the trip.

The U.S. Postal Service advertises that first-class mail — your average letter with a 55 cent stamp — arrives within “1-3 business days.” That is an official standard set by the Postal Service.

We decided to test it.

Some may be willing to stake our democracy on Louis DeJoy doing the right thing, I am not.
