This is their argument Im thinking WTF only the poor should fight their wars. When I enlisted at 17 I only had VEAP a Reagan scam veterans education program I remember my first platoon sgt telling us in 1984 you men may wanna enroll in this its all you got.
I didnt know I assumed I had a GI bill yea I didnt read the fine print. I enrolled I think it was dollar for dollar match I ended up cashing it out and sending it to my wife and our oldest daughter who was a infant at time.
I still had and have used GI loan on mortgage and as for using GI bill for education it didnt happen I had a wife and young daughter obligations on discharge and went to teamster union in 87.
Im happy that people have received relief actually I would love to see free higher education my tax dollars subsidizing a young person investing in our youth. And it bothers me that my fellow blue collar brethren in that the majority of them are so angry over this debt relief crying socialism.
I ask them do you understand that we have reverse socialism in this country most latest trumpig tax cuts. That has laid two trillion dollars on the backs of the middle class I ask them how can you identify with the wealthy and the greedy and continue voting repig they could give one shit about you.

(12,222 posts)Republicans don't want middle to poor class to get any kind of loan reduction, period.
But hey, the rich gets to pay no taxes, reduction of any loans and or full relief from any loans.

(5,125 posts)But with DEMs in charge at least the major issues start getting addressed.
Remember rats at the VA in DC? Got that cleaned up.
And it's the DEMs who keep saying, IF YOU SUPPORT MILITARY, then put your $$$ into programs that help them and quit giving lip service to that support.
END WELFARE FOR MILLIONAIRES. Let THEM hold bake sales if they want a 3rd home in the Hamptons.

(7,290 posts)Military people I work with didnt join to get debt paid off, they joined to avoid the debt in the first place. Unless the assumption is that all future debt, even debt not yet incurred will be forgiven, I doubt this will have much impact on recruitment.

(36,722 posts)Why worry about fewer enlistments when we have all these patriotic republicans?
Like Eric & Donnie Jr & pedophile Ted Nugent.
of course

if we were to address the insane cost of college, why, we'll have to give up on war.
you know what else i'd love to see? my political wildest dream? free college for every poor kid in america, and damn cheap for citizens of other countries.
a girl cant dream, can she?
dream #2- they fix the part where your military is training worthless in any job that requires any kind of certificate. or at least make recruiters lie about that. a lot of active duty ppl dont even know that. my nephew joined to train as a nurse. was a surgical nurse at reed.
came home, tried to get his rn. nope. you at square 1 son. cant even be an emt. his uncle the major dodnt know.
we have dire shortage in most of these specialities.
dems could fix that.

(12,418 posts)Has always been that they are the "job creators", which they actually aren't, but if you concede that, there's a stronger argument for free college because that helps out the disease fighters, the bridge designers, the book writers, etc., all the people that keep us safe, and make us happy and entertained, and also create jobs.

(2,910 posts)The rich don't create jobs. Demand for services and products creates jobs. We only have that demand if common people have money to spend.
The rich sent our jobs to the third world, to the desperately poor who would work for peanuts in dirty, dangerous conditions.
My first industrial job went to South Carolina to break the union. My last industrial job was off-shored.

(10,150 posts)If it is socialism when Jared Kushner's almost $3 million PPP loan was forgiven? Or was the editor of The Federalist, a rightwing publication, $200,000 loan forgiveness by the government socialism?
Why is it only socialism when the average Joe gets forgiveness on loans?
