Big thing is this will NOT delay the investigation any further, as was assuredly the hope of trump and his "legal team"

(3,445 posts)The fact that she changed her mind after hearing from the DOJ is not a good sign for Trump or for him having a prison free future

(1,204 posts)Do you think the judge is calling Trump's bluff?
SilasSouleII
(357 posts)Simply put, the DoJ's presenration and reasoning for no need for a special master must have scared the shit out of the judge.

By hook or by crook - trDUMP will judge shop for a favorable ruling.
He is the Tangerine Fuhrer,.. nobody questions his character without suffering recriminations.

(5,749 posts)... he also gets a temporary restraining order it won't stop the investigation. He would have to show that he is very likely to win his case, and that preceding would cause irreparable harm.
I don't think he would get a restraining order.

(45,657 posts)15 life sentences, no parole, 23 hr a day solitary.
Only escaped the death penalty by admitting what he had done.
He was only an FBI agent with much less access to secret documents than Trump.

(1,204 posts)I'm assuming this would go beyond even "criminality" and into the realm of clandestine warfighting - that's why I fear this whole thing has fallen into the wrong arena.

(45,657 posts)I happen to think it could become an FSB or Saudi intelligence agency matter.
And if any of the above are taking care of the Trump problem, we will never know.
Trump has more problems than the FBI and DOJ.
Good catch and welcome to DU.

(3,467 posts)Other than Thomas, I don't think any of the other justices are his friends. They may have right-wing views and were more than happy to work with him in order to get where they are. But I don't think they feel beholden to him. All but Thomas refused to support the idea that his Presidential privilege powers were still valid and allowed the release of the Capitol attack records.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not defending the right-wing side of the court. They just don't care about Trump. If he can't do anything to benefit you and he doesn't have any leverage to hold against you, he has nothing to offer.

(31,097 posts)Now, on the one hand that might mean her orders are to oppose the SM , her bosses are sick of trump and want Destupid to be the candidate so she may be allowed to do the right thing, but I'm not counting on it...

(16,888 posts)she IS a 'Federalist' appointment - appointed by IQ45. One 'could' assume she'll follow the 'club' rules, as well as show gratitude to her 'dear Leader'.............
HOWEVER, the law is WAY TOO CLEAR in this case - AIN'T NO WAY she dares rule in dRump's favor - unless she wants to kill her judicial future.
All that being said, 'fingers crossed' won't hurt..........

(13,942 posts)Take your Special Master request to US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, where any motion for relief pertaining to the Mar-a-Largo search warrant originated.
You are not allowed to judge shop at the federal court system with the explicit goal to hunt down a more favorable ruling for yourself.

Librarians are getting death threats along with the police?!!!

(42,383 posts)As a general rule, all assignments are made via a blind, random selection process. The rules are quite clear.
I don't know why folks think the DOJ would have turned a blind eye to the assignment if it was contrary to the rules unless they think the DOJ is incompetent, which they most clearly are not.
There is one scenario where the odds of Cannon getting the assignment might have been increased: that's because every magistrate judge is "paired" with several of the district court judges and Cannon is one of eight judges paired with Reinhart.
https://www.flsd.uscourts.gov/sites/flsd/files/adminorders/2022-6A_0.pdf
So the fact that Reinhart handled the search warrant might have led to this case being "paired" with one of the judges linked to Reinhart. But there was no certainty it would be Cannon.

(20,873 posts)he says he is paying legal fees for some Magat rioters, and he is considering pardons for them.
Hey, he is predictable, not to worry, don't rat me out, I will pardon you.
he's lying and clearly he is in no position to pardon anyone. if they believe him, well they already believed him far past the point they should have known he is a psychopathic compulsive liar thief and con man.
paying their fees! yeah right. he doesn't pay his own.
FakeNoose
(32,356 posts)Does anyone even believe him? I doubt it.
Even if he DID pay their legal fees, he has no standing to issue pardons for anybody. That ENDED on Jan. 20, 2021.

(12,106 posts)Here's a QUIZ question.
What did Rehnquist, Stevens, Thomas, O'Conner, Kennedy, Souter, Scalia, Breyer and RBG all agree on?
That Andrew Weissman is a rat bastard son of a bitch who lied to a Jury to garner a conviction which cost 7000 jobs and the SCOTUS unanimously voted to reverse the conviction...
I really don't like how some people have put Liz Cheney and Andrew Weissman and their ilk on pedestals for the ONE reason that they hate Trump.
My ideals haven't changed because of Trump.
A neocon is scum of the earth, The DoJ and FBI have a decades long history of abuse, the CIA has fomented trouble globally... and I was pro-peace before Ukraine... and I'm STILL pro peace.
