On the whole "Nobody wants to work" comment. . .

Full disclosure here, I did not hit the link to read further on this little piece of click bait.

"An Influencer and OnlyFans Star Is Facing Backlash After Saying 'Nobody Wants To Work These Days'
'It seems like nobody wants to work these days,' said Tara Lynn, a Tik Toker and OnlyFans model, in a recent video. . ."

Now, with only an older person's cursory understanding of Tik Tok and OnlyFans to speak from, I would like share a few thoughts on Ms. Lynn as well as one of the Kardashians who advised women to "get off their asses" and another one who once said something along the lines of, "We all [the Kardashian family] work hard every day!"

The kind of work that people are "rebelling against" (for lack of a better term) involves either standing or sitting and being either pushed and strained or bored and strained (from repetitive motions) for many hours at a stretch while dealing with demanding, often unreasonable supervisors or customers and having to hold back from any normal human responses. And this sort of work, more often than not, does not pay a living wage.

This is the sort of work those sorts of people don't want to do, either, if they were being honest or had an ounce of self-awareness. These people have instead managed to monetize either their looks or their various opinions ranging from vapid to outrageous. They spend their days sitting in front of a camera in situations where they have a great deal of control.

I'm not prepared to say whether or not what they do qualifies as "work", but it is a far cry from the options that are available to the people that they are criticizing. Life can be difficult even for the pretty and rich and well-placed, I know. But the people making those sorts of sweeping comments about others not only have not walked in the shoes of the ordinary wage-slave in our current socio-economic system, they clearly don't want to.

They make their own living by seeking our attention. Most people work their asses off while being ignored unless they make a mistake and the boss or some customer with a grievance decides to treat them as a lesser being.

People are willing to work these days. They just want to be treated as, you know, people. And they want to be paid well enough to live like people and not animals in utilitarian kennels.

1. I tell right-wingers it just looks that way because President Biden

has the unemployment level so low. If they need workers to fill those cheap labor jobs, maybe they shouldn't whine so much about the southern border.

I’ve looked sporadically but I haven’t found much mention of it. Maybe it’s not a factor in empty positions but it seems to me like it could be.

Usually it's some old Karen who can't get her French fries in the drive-through fast enough.

The contempt that has been heaped on fast-food workers disgusts me anyway. Sometimes I try to reply to these people. I know it's useless, but still I am compelled to do it! Some of the points I try to make:

People ARE working - they just don't want to work shitty jobs where they are on their feet all day, or have to work a split-shift, or they have no set schedule, or they don't want to put up with rude assholes all day long.

Many college students are now doing things like driving for Uber or delivering for InstaCart or DoorDash or UberEats. Those are jobs where they can set their own schedules or only work a few days/nights a week.

Many people found out during the pandemic that they could work remotely, and they are still doing it.

What else?

9. Because they worked very hard to make money and promote their brand

I don't care for them, but I could care less about how famous and rich they are -- they actually work really hard for that money.

Kris Jenner will always have a bit of a by with me -- she stayed intensely loyal to Nicole Brown after the divorce from OJ when basically no one else did, and Marcia Clark said she wished she had put her on the witness stand. She also put the screws in her ex ie Robert.

5. More people are working in the US than at any time in its history

But there are people who don't want to work for a variety of reasons. The main one being that the jobs they can get provide no hope for a future.

There are many factors, but pensions being gone is a huge one. People worked for pensions, not they've got to work for a 401K that never seems to grow that fast. Having a 401K target is totally different to work for than having a work anniversary that gets you a pension, and then subsequent anniversaries that get your pension bumped up. We're looking at a country in a couple decades where millions of retired people will be living off from next to nothing, it's a bleak picture.

7. There were about 131 million working full time in 2019.

There are about 127 million now. People have dropped out of the labor force.

Many reasons as you have said but I don't know if pensions are a main one. Not that many jobs had a pension before and the most of the ones that did were industrial type of work, We chased industry away and pensions went with them.

12. Why pensions went away:

(memories from a labor law class I took 30 some years ago…so caveats)

Fed law says if a company provides pensions to executives, it must for regular employees also

Tax rates on executives then (70%?) made them want to defer their wages, thus they took less pay immediately, and deferred it thru getting a pension

Regular employees got a pension

Reagan dropped the tax rates

Executives no longer desire to defer their pay, so executive AND regular workers pensions discontinued
