OF COURSE: Republican Sponsor of Bill Requiring Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients Arrested for DUI
byThe TroubadourFollowforWriting by David Harris Gershon

Kip Smith, who is co-sponsor of a bill requiring that public assistance recipients be tested for drug abuse, has been arrested and charged with DUI.
http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20112012/HB/464

“I observed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mr. Smith’s breath,” [Officer] Kramer said in his report. “He advised me he was a state representative and gave the name ‘Kip Smith.'”

Smith, whose given name is John Andrew Smith, first told the officer he had not consumed any alcoholic beverages.

“I asked him again, and he stated he had consumed a single beer at Hal’s. I noticed also that Mr. Smith’s eyes were watery, and I asked him to exit the vehicle, which he did,” Kramer said in the report.

Smith told the officer he’d had the beer 45 minutes earlier, and the officer asked him to blow into a hand-held “intoximeter”. The officer said the lawmaker refused, stating he would prefer to go to a clinic or the hospital to get tested.

Maybe we should drug test state legislators and kick them off the dole if they test positive or get a DUI.

As far as the media is concerned GOP hatred, racism and hypocrisy is irrelevant to any discussion. It is okay when Republicans or conservatives do it. It is part of the double standard that now infects this country.

A Democrat or progressive person or institution or group who does anything even minor is pilloried endlessly. Republicans and right wingers are "natural born pathological liars". It is just their nature like a rabid dog.

22. Irrelevant Addendum

Jan 2012

All the hypocrisy of the GOP and RW is irrelevant to the debate. To the corporate owned media It does not matter how hypocritical or absurd the behavior is, they always seem to get a free pass. And that is the problem because in this post truth and post fact era it does not matter how absurd, hateful or far from reality the GOP is the media sees its role to justify that hypocrisy or pass it off as unimportant. That is it is it is unimportant unless it involves a democrat or progressive.

It is about political derangement of the most dangerous sort. It is because it is about what people believe no matter how insane or murderous that belief is. It is the same sort of environment that allowed something like the holocaust to happen in Germany. The rhetoric is very incendiary, racist and proviolence against anyone who does not accept ALL the right wing's believe system. To believe that the GOP would not instigate a pogrom if it had the power is to ignore a danger that must be challenged. The Gingrich code words on liberal minded people is that they must be exterminated.

The GOP strategy is based on total lies and there is a media that is willing to collaborate in that agenda.

He was given two more breath tests, and Smith blew a .099 and then a .100, “well over the legal limit,” the report said...

http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/state-rep-kip-smith-1302153.html

And not surprisingly he also lied about when had his last drink:

The officer said Smith then told him he’d had a beer 15 minutes earlier, instead of the 45 minutes he had said previously. Smith then allegedly failed a “walk-and-turn” test and a “one-leg-stand” test...
