So, are Hitler and Mussolini "OK guys" now? If I were to compare someone to either of those

men, I would intend it as a serious insult, but I think many Republicans would consider the remark a compliment.

Ms Miloni, just apparently selected as Italy's new leader, is a flat-out unapologetic in-your-face fascist. Her political party was founded the year after Mussolini was executed and hung upside down in Milan for the purpose of "preserving his legacy". Mussolini's granddaughter is a member of this party.

Yet, Ms Miloni is a Trump pal, spoke at the most recent CPAC gathering and Republican luminaries like Taylor-Greene and Boebert are pleased as punch that she was elected.

So, you see, I suspect that if a fascist like Miloni is now considered a swell person --- even a role model --- maybe Adolph and Benito are about to be recast as "conservative heroes who were ahead of their time".

Thus, my question at the beginning of this post: are Hitler and Mussolini now "OK guys" as far as Republicans are concerned?

Given that Republicans get worse by the day, I expect by this time next year they’ll be open with their approval.

I guess it only took a few years to rehabilitate him. The party of Hate makes Great.

general terms.

They do some mind twisting, comparing two (or more) terribly horrible people, and then somehow deciding that one is now worse than the other because of some agreed upon measure that they define as a good (the "at least" statement), either dismissing outright, or minimizing the damage the now chosen one has caused.

I raise an eyebrow, snort in derision, and shake my head.

It's not a 20th Century thing.

When you read history, The Greeks and Romans would qualify as Fascists... in the 18th Century, as a reaction to Social Revolutionary movements a number of leaders emerged saying "fascist-like" things...

Even Trotsky said Fascism and Communism were on parallel paths.

I'd prefer if people focused on the word "Authoritarian".

I had a cousin in Luxembourg who was a great strapping youth in the 1940s. After the Nazis occupied Luxembourg, they kept trying to draft him into the German army. Naturally, he didn't want to serve the country that had occupied his nation. His brother-in-law, a pharmacist, would give him some kind of medicine that made him sick every time the Nazis came around to take him away.

It worked, and my cousin (who died a few years ago) may well have lived to a good old age because of his brother-in-law's potion.

I was lucky enough to have known both men. With Putin's recent attempts to recruit more cannon fodder, this has been on my mind a lot.

'30s...Hitler, Mussolini and Franco...only Franco survived to die a natural death.

One out three is not good odds in my opinion. All these fascists sorta need to watch their backs instead of rejoicing over Melonie's win as there's little chance she'll transform Italy into a fascist state.
