DeSantis' supporter waiting in mile long line for gas - says DeSantis' broke his promise

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — The parking lot of a Wawa convenience store here was transformed into a sea of red gasoline cans on Saturday as hundreds of residents waited for hours in hopes of powering generators and cars after the city, about 30 miles northwest of Fort Myers, was battered by Hurricane Ian.

The store, one of only a few purveyors of gas that had reopened since Wednesday’s storm, corralled cars into a line that stretched for more than a mile along a suburban road. One woman was pushing her van, which appeared to have run out of gas, as the line inched forward. Hundreds more people arrived carrying empty gas cans or pushing them in wheelbarrows.
______

As the line grew longer under the beating sun, several people fumed that much of the national attention appeared to be focused on wealthier areas like Naples or Cape Coral.

One man at the very end of the line, who declined to give his name, said he had not seen any power company workers in his neighborhood and wondered aloud why federal aid had not arrived to help him. He said he needed gas to buy food, but he grew frustrated when he learned that the Wawa was accepting only cash.

At the front of the line was Gary Jaworski, who said he had waited for four hours, beginning at 7 a.m., to fill up four cans of gas. He said that although he fully supported Gov. Ron DeSantis, he was frustrated at what he viewed as a broken promise by the governor — that gas stations would be able to quickly reopen after the storm.

“Where’s all the fuel?” he asked. “Every gas station or filling station was to have a generator prepared to go at all times.”

A: Florida gas stations issued a certificate of occupancy after July 1, 2006, must be prewired with a transfer switch to enable emergency power after a prolonged power outage, but they are not required to have a backup generator actually on site.

of a major disaster and be able to run it for a minimum of 72 hours. But requirements apparently don't apply equally to all gas stations; they vary according to the size of the community, distance from an interstate etc, and number of pumps.

Not to wish ill on anyone except MAGAs and their politicians, but I hope this kind of thing keeps DeSantis from earning his Giuliani Certificate for Outstanding Political Grandstanding.

for voting against the aid package for Sandy and now sucking up to the entire nation for help. Throw in his Texas to Martha’s Vineyard stunt and the optics, as they say, ain’t good. I wonder how concerned he’s going to be about immigration status when construction crews of that are all immigrants show up to rebuild south Florida. A lot of folks in the panhandle forgot all about that nonsense after Michael. They were just happy to have someone tarp their roof.

We didn't have a lot of fuss on the right about tRump's crimes against humanity, though, and almost all voted to reelect him. Immigration's a very deep-seated issue.

When we (ex-Californians) built a house in GA, the foundation trenches had to be hand-dug in our rock hillside. The contractor had a well-paid permanent crew of Guatemalans because natives wouldn't do it, and what I loved and will never forget was the men singing cheerfully as they picked our trenches. Just a normal day's work. They were so impressive, and I remember thinking how great it was for people to see them working around the county.

So naturally they are terrible at governing.

They are great at winning elections and tearing down government, satisfying their wealthy benefactors and convincing those at the margins who push them over the edge that they're getting something, when they're actually being stripped blind and just hurting others.

storm I think.

-having to request Federal relief aid (imagine if he hadn’t), given the nation watched as the request was accepted by Light Brandon, with grace. Hypocrisy unveiled.
-the lack of State government preparedness witnessed by this article. And it’s gas, folks want their gas! Light Brandon may take note of this and fuel their desires, perhaps?
-returning to MAGA fascism may be permanently put on hold as a result, and political stunts will not be given a pass by corporate media…could fascism in the open now finally cross a line with them…I can dream!

I hope for Floridians but I hope as much Hurricane Ian brought some needed changes of heart and minds and opens eyes.

I'm afraid DeSantis is sucking the air out of the election with his antics and stunts.

I hear very little about Charlie Crist, even though I would think he is a credible challenger.

Is the exact sentiment Ronnie and Fox will push. He will direct that Federal Socialist aid Joe sends, that we pay for, to his wealthy bro’s and purposely not help the poor or middle class to use them as victims of Biden’s failure to help. You can bet he will send his media there to let em rage about Biden’s neglect. (Their made up excuse) that will rile em up to help them vote the damn Dems out. Soon it will all be V Demimgs taught.
He will abuse them to create a hate, not for his failure, to blame it on Dems. Even let many die for this newest stunt.
It sure does not create a dire need impression when media constantly shows stacks and stacks of boats that cost more than many peoples homes, as tragic losses. Many of the worst hit could pay for the homes they lost for the cost of one of those yachts.
