(20,670 posts)he was quoting us saying that the gqp is working for the russians. So, he's using nutty voices and laughing hysterically in between. He really does sound like he's hysterical- like seriously, he's cracking up because he's been called out as a russian sympathizer. I was thinking of the shakespeare line: "Meethinks thou dost protest too much." which is what you do when you're on hyper-defensive because you know you're wrong.

In Hamlet, "protest" was meant as "making a vow." The queen in the fake play was proclaiming her love for her husband the queen a LOT and that is when she said "Methinks she doth protest too much." It's related to how we use it, but it's a misquote for the most part.
English teacher for 32 years. Don't get me started on how people bastardize the points Frost was making in "Road Not Taken" and "Mending Wall."
