Mayor Lee chose new supervisor largely because she’s a woman (they’re willing to talk)

Sure, she’s got roots in activism for immigrants and tenants, the same circles in which Mayor Ed Lee got his political start. She’s popular in the progressive District 5 and is widely expected to win her seat in her own right in the November election. And yes, she was supportive of Lee during his mayoral campaign.

...

She’s a she.

...

Lee simply likes the ladies.

“I’ve worked well with the board as a whole, but particularly with the women on the Board of Supervisors,” Lee told The Chronicle’s John Coté afterward. “It seems like they come in (to my office) more often, they’re willing to talk, they’re willing to exchange ideas. That just seemed to resonate with me.

“Maybe it is what some people are saying, as political people, women seem to have an added rapport,” Lee said.

...and then have others point out to you that you've chosen 90% women?

the comment from Lee sounds sexist in that it expresses a preference. There are good things about being talkative, but also good things about not talking so much.
