(23,302 posts)I'm weary of the MSM doom and gloom projections for the Dems. I think it is BS and I believe we're going to do okay at the end of it all. VOTE!

(43,123 posts)Immediately after 2018 elections, Friday of the same week, my phone rang with a plea from a local GOP operative who spieled her case for working harder and getting more donations to capture more Senate seats. I don't know why they called me. I'm a registered Democrat, but there they were putting in more effort.

(32,620 posts)I'll always try to catch the dinnertime news - usually Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News. I try to catch Rachel's show and Lawrence's even if means DVR-ing it and watch the next day. However I've cut back on the all-day news watching, even before the midterm elections. I think I burned out after January 6th happened.

(11,258 posts)Vote in November and live in Peace. for 11 months. Shut down the Cable driven devision and constant false Election horse race. . The Networks can tell us when Congress does something great or really bad. I give a shit less what the loud mouth minority pukes have to say at C-Span, another gift from Cable. A platform for hate. They are all very predictable, like robots.
I will be Streaming more for sure. I already voted so there's that. Blue straight across to restore my daughters freedoms.

(2,336 posts)The minute the mid-terms are held, we'll start talking about 2024. It's now political all the time. Not sure how long it'll take to sort out the results from the mid-terms either since every race Repugs don't win will be mired in lawsuits and BS.

But the world doesn't stop because I don't get enough sleep, so neither do I.

Actually, THIS week, except for Monday in France and a brief Monday night at home in Germany, I came down here to Spain (Catalunya, to be precise) because I had something to do here early today (Wednesday). So, I flew down here yesterday. When I told my wife about this week's plans, she suggested that, since we haven't had a lot of time together lately, that she join me here in Barcelona until Sunday. I thought this sounded like an excellent suggestion, so she's arriving here tomorrow. I canceled almost everything else and put most of it off until next week. She speaks no Catalan, and almost no Spanish, but I speak both (used to live here many moons ago), so this is familiar ground to me. One of the perks is watching the jaws of the Filipino hotel workers drop when I greet them in Tagalog without even asking them where they are from. Big smiles all around, and a second round of amazement when I tell them I've never been to the Philippines. Believe me, when you've spent enough time in hotels in Spain and Belgium, you don't need to go to the Philippines to learn Tagalog (just ask anyone who lives in Hawai'i).
If local politics would take a breather here, it would be a bonus, too. Although a majority of the Catalans don't want to split off from the rest of Spain, a noisy minority wants the world to think they do, and sometimes block off streets to make their point--usually right before I need to grab a taxi to the airport (who the hell keeps telling them, I've never found out).

A ship with only one Tagalog speaker has to be a rarity these days!

(36,294 posts)Had my shoulder replaced back in June and I'm getting more range of motion and strength back in that arm. Have a number of projects planned like completing the root cellar, building shelves in the basement, learning to can and preserve various foods, learn to make bread, working with a neighbor getting things ready for chickens next year, mulching the garden and so on.

(5,164 posts)I am taking a break for a while now. I rarely watch the news because I cant stand to hear the same thing over and over and nothing changes. All it does is damage me, its not going to make any difference to what happens in any of these elections. I made the mistake of watching Ari on MSNBC for a few minutes earlier. He had a right wing nut job on and I had a terrible feeling of anxiety, it affected my heart, so I really have to stay away from it.
Unfortunately with our current situation, Im not making any more contributions, I have to worry about myself, my family and my own future. I did my best my entire life. Always voting against fascism and its very stressful to see what has happened to this country, and what it did to my family, including the loss of my father. I always knew it was possible but I never thought it would actually happen and now it is. I just hope we win the midterms, that would give me some reason to feel better at least.
