I think we SHOULD negotiate with the Russians.

Sit down across the table and calmly explain our "last and final offer".

1) Get out of Ukraine and stop shelling Ukraine cities.

Once that stops... once they are out... we can sit down again and discuss their actions to allow them back into the community of nations.

We don't need to make threats. The sanctions are crippling them, the whole continent is united against them (for now). And we can wait them out... might as well settle sooner rather than later.

So is it, we don't negotiate with terrorists except if it is an American citizen?

I doubt Putin can go that far politically/internally so therein lies the rub, whether it is the Ukraine military that pushes that far on their own or Russians/Putin falling apart on their own, it will be problematic in any case. I really don't see a clean end to this, sadly. Much needless suffering and decades of rebuilding and everyone involved weakened and crippled. Not to mention the collateral damage to many beyond RU and Ukraine.

Ukraine needs territory well within 80km of Moscow and, ideally, of Minsk (though that is not Russian territory). In lieu of Belarusian territory, a 100km wide strip of Russian land along Russia's border with Belarus to reduce Kyiv's vulnerability to Russian forces might be acceptable. Also, enough Russian territory toward Georgia, including all Russian territory around the Sea of Azov (Crimea included, of course) to recompense Ukraine for the damage inflicted by this conflict.

Me.
