Israel Exit Polls Show Netanyahu returning to power

I know a lot of people here don't like Israel. But for those of us who are Jewish, it's a backup plan for us if Republican Fascism destroys Democracy in the US.

But exit polls in todays election are showing the religious far-right winning in Israel, which means the most far-right, authoritarian government Israel has ever had.

This eliminates my backup plan to leave the US since I won't be safe in Israel either.

It's insane how much the far-right is taking over everywhere.

to form a government.

Some Israeli sources have concluded that Netanyahu will be able to form a coalition (where small parties seats would outnumber his own), but others suggest that Lapid and the Centrist coalition could actually prevail in the necessary process of forming a coalition.

There are big fractures on the right--as I'm sure you are aware--between ultra-orthodox parties and secular right-wingers (especially Russian Jews) and Netanyahu will have challenges.

And if he takes power his coalition--like all of Israel's recent coalitions--will be shaky.

I'm hoping for a miracle here.

I just don’t like right wingers, regardless of country. I’m sad that the far right seems to be as ascendant in so many places.

to win a seat in Israel's Parliament. That could mean Netanyahu having a "natural coalition" of 59 of 60 seats needed to make him PM.

This isn't over quite yet.
