Another positive sign in Maine
I have a friend, a retired guy, a diehard Republican, who was a sensible conservative until he lost his mind to Fox and the cult of the orange goon; he fell for the really crazy conspiracy stuff, hated Fauci, became an anti-masking antivaxxer even after nearly dying of covid. It was difficult and dispiriting sometimes, but I kept the lines of communication open, cause he’s been such a decent man for so long. We don’t talk politics much anymore, though I have called out the BS as I can, so I have no explanation for this.
In this very red corner of this western Maine county, he has a lawn sign for Jared Golden, the Democratic congressperson. I nearly went off the road when I saw it, and had to take a picture to share with incredulous friends. If he has turned back to the light, there’s hope for us all.

1. Fox News is everywhere, hard to not see it. It's a damn shame when
under the guise of free speech Rupert Murdoch can try to take America down while lining his pockets with gold.

3. IMO Fox "News" is Responsible for Much of the Radicalization Among the Military
It should be banned from all American military facilities. I have walked out of 2 companies, one where I was prepared to spend big bucks for car repairs because they had Fox blaring in their office waiting area.

7. It's incredible, it blares all over the place spewing lies and distortions, and it is taking America
down. It's truly a sinister outfit with only profits in mind. They could care less about the people, the country or its future. Fox News is really the equivalent of Hitler's Joseph Goebbels, chief propagandist for the Nazi Party, and then Reich Minister of Propaganda from 1933 to 1945. He was one of Adolf Hitler 's closest and most devoted acolytes, known for his skills in public speaking and his deeply virulent antisemitism, which was evident in his publicly voiced views. He advocated progressively harsher discrimination, including the extermination of the Jews in the Holocaust.

27. I've started to leave negative Yelp reviews when I find a company playing FOX.
I don't want to support MAGA-lovers, and if that means I have to find another mechanic/pizza shop/eye doctor, so be it. And I'll make sure everyone else knows what they're in for if they go there.

29. That might actually make a difference because they hate getting downvoted on Yelp
You'd need to post the reason why you're downvoting - because of Faux Noise and not for anything else. I'll bet the owners will get that message too.

33. Absolutely. And Fox knows how to accuse Democrats of being anti-military, anti-family,
anti-American, etc, which hits deep with military folk. Rush Limbaugh had a very high profile on Armed forces Radio, and that made deep inroads with the military overseas. The news they receive about "back home" is heavily filtered through right wing propaganda sources. Fox preys on their anxiety about support of the military, and their anxiety about the erosion of American values. They don't suspect that Fox is the primary source of attacks on American morality and values. I think Trump turned that around somewhat with his direct attacks on the military and intelligence services.

34. Military radio blasted mush limbutt for decades
and soaked all the shit into the heads of the soldiers. It's hard to undo brainwashing from a guy who hated women because most of them rejected his pimply butt and spent his life on a revenge grudge lying for the repuke party to feed his own ego. Thanks military for exposing everyone to that.

2. The Boise ID school board election recently rejected every RWNJ on the ballot
to the point of having an 18-year old high school senior handily defeat the one incumbent who refused to disavow extremist group support. All other incumbents easily won re-election over far-right candidates. Voter turnout was nearly triple over the previous school board election.

10. Boise is not hard right as is most of Idaho
However, Ada County where Boise is located went 50-46 for Trump in the 2020 election. Whenever a purple-red electorate rejects extremism these days, it's a very good sign. And the people who realized what was at stake were the ones who were the most motivated to vote and did so.

31. My youngest nephew went to college in Wyoming
His traditional repub parents laughed that he was the most conservative of their kids. (All millenials, the others vary from moderate left to further left.)
He went to med school in Boise (entering class of the new DO med school). At Christmas I asked him how he was doing (in his last year of rotations in Idaho during an extended period of medical emergency where no hospitals could take patients from other facilities due to over full ERs). In the discussion, he referred to Boise as a blue bubble - in a tone of appreciation for being buffered from the worst of the aggressive covid denying protesters (dec 2021). He has gotten more moderate as he went through med school during covid - even in a red state. Your description of the school board results matches what he described a year ago. That leaves me (in another red state) with at least a little bit of hopefulness for the future. |

I know how the news runs together, I wasn’t thinking I was correcting anything. But that Kansas, especially, held the line on abortion rights was fantastic, wasn’t it?

12. Thanks for this
I have seen and read way too much republicans are gonna slaughter us today.
My Republican brother, not a loony just a good church respecting Christian, texted me last night, “help me make a choice. I Do not support abortion, but I believe it’s the womens choice not government.” (He doesn’t know he is Dem) he gave me a list of candidates in his district in NC. One candidate he said he could vote for, She is a strong democrat, with faith, and stands for everything we care for. All the ones he was looking towards were the same. He voted for trump in 2016, now hates him. Got sold on all the Hillary trashing. He is a Navy Vet like me, on SS and Medicare. SOME republicans are not hate filled gun humping cultist. I said look, (like Joe does) you do not have to go full Dem forever, but you guys need to clean out the trash, make a statement that you are done with hate, lies and corruption. Push for sensible humane candidates in the future. Do what the Jesus YOU follow would do, not the the Jesus that hates and kills and lies and worships the cash. I hope there are millions of repubs like him, but a know way too many that are just like what they look to be right now. I am very worried what’s coming. |

It's pretty much a given that this area is Republican country...but maybe there are fewer Republicans that really want this crank back as Governor.

She knows I'm a progressive Democrat and it's never been a problem until Traitor Tot. She unfriended me from Facebook, so my husband goes to her page occasionally. He said she's worse than ever. It's okay, I prefer my friends who aren't in a fascist cult.
