Tiffany Cross 'Disheartened' By MSNBC Ouster, Says 'My Work Is Not Done'

The outspoken weekend anchor, whose show was cancelled earlier Friday by the NBCUniversal-owned cable outlet, said in a statement Friday night that her freewheeling, outspoken style was on the mark for a disruptive era in politics, and indicated she would continue her work elsewhere.

“I am disheartened to learn of MSNBC’s decision to cancel my show, ‘The Cross Connection,’ at such a crucial time — four days before the midterm elections,” Cross said, while spotlighting the program’s ratings. “And we were intentional about centering marginalized voices of the rising majority — from all communities of color.”

MSNBC cut ties with Cross unexpectedly Friday morning, telling her production staff of the decision Friday morning, according to three people familiar with the matter. A rotating group of anchors will lead her weekend hours until a replacement is found, and the production staff assigned to her show is believed to be likely to stay in place.

At partial issue, according to people familiar with the matter, are on-air volleys between Cross and commentators like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, who have criticized the MSNBC anchor’s views in recent months, sometimes spurring across to retort. MSNBC executives felt the segments were not up to standards, but Cross supporters wonder why the network didn’t do more to shield her from the criticism. After all, the show drew an average of more than 600,000 last month, according to Nielsen, though it captured fewer viewers than its time-slot rivals on Fox News and CNN.

I always watched her show because she is such a breath of fresh air. The reason for the dismissal by msnbc is disgusting. These people have no imagination or courage.

4. Just says fewer viewers

It is not significantly fewer viewers.

Look at what’s going on with Alex Wagner vs jake tapper. He is beating her in the ratings yet they are not firing her.

However, you may have a point about keeping others that aren’t winning time slots. But the changes may not be done. Also contracts may not be up with others yet.

6. Different contracts probably have different buy out clauses.

I’m sure Cross got some sort of termination package. X months salary or Y dollars that was defined in her contract.

Others with lagging viewership will likely have different, and in the case of nightly vs weekend hosts, higher packages.

Makes msnbc more tolerant because their price of exit is higher.

IMHO

9. They hired her to attract more viewers of color to MSNBC on weekends, which she did.

But she was not attracting MSNBC's core white viewers, hence the lower numbers.

show. She always had controversial topics on racial issues discussed as she advocated for Black and Brown people/voters, which I understand she had been warned about.

This incident on another show, "The Breakfast Club" with Charlamagne Tha God probably had a lot to do with her show being cancelled. IMO she went a little too far with these profane comments. Scroll down to see "The Breakfast Club" video.

but neither am I surprised.

Telling people to “pick up a weapon” in a time of political violence isn’t cool.

Calling a key battleground state that voted for Obama in 08 and 12 the “dick of the country” that should be “castrated” isn’t cool.

MSNBC has no obligation to give these viewpoints a forum.

I tried to watch her a few times and wasn’t at all impressed.

I didn’t cheer when she was fired, but I wasn’t surprised at all.

My guess is MSNBC capitulated and fired her to satisfy their mysterious “conservative” viewers.

People don't like to be told they're racist, even though it's true. But people of color can be be called racist all day long on Fox News and nobody gets fired.

She get deluged with hate and criticism.

Now?

She's out at MSNBC. Contract not renewed.

Timing is terrible. Protect Joy Reid, a unicorn, a Black female anchor on cable news. And @SymoneDSanders! My bad for not mentioning her. Glad she has her show.

Tucker Carlson's Fearmongering Features White Women In Bonkers Race-Bait

The Fox News host targeted MSNBC's Tiffany Cross to rile his right-wing audience.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/tucker-carlson-white-women-msnbc-tiffany-cross_n_6351187ee4b04cf8f3802f97

Tucker Carlson twisted the observations of MSBNC’s Tiffany Cross about the Jan. 6 insurrection on Wednesday, accusing her of demonizing white women in general. (Watch the video below.)

Cross, who is Black, noted on a recent MSNBC show that white women played a prominent part in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. She aired concerns about whether Americans realized that more white women were “enablers to this very dangerous domestic terrorist movement.”

At least 100 of the rioters arrested were women and they played a “front-facing role,” according to an NBC story in April that cited a George Washington University program on extremism report. The report mentioned women’s role in the reemergence of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s. But modern social media has given women new opportunities to join right-wing extremism, the network wrote.

Cross’s remarks seem consistent with the facts. But to Carlson, who repeatedly has peddled the “great replacement” conspiracy theory that whites are intentionally being replaced by immigrants and people of color, Cross’ comments were just fuel for fearmongering.
