Mitt Romney's Plan for a Soviet America

Think about it: He wants to gut spending on everything except the military. Paul Krugman has stated repeatedly that Willard's policies would plunge the U.S. into a Greatest Depression, and I can't help but think of Francis Fukuyama's remark that, in the final analysis, the USSR was really nothing more than "a Third World country with a big Army."

The Soviet Union was, until the late 70s, a beehive of infrastructural, industrial, and scientific development. It went from feudalism to a reasonably well-developed country. The gap between US and Soviet PPP per capita GDP was not even 100% in 1980 (comparable to New Zealand relative to the US at present time).
