At the end of the day more people will have voted Democratic and the vast majority of Americans support their ideas and yet the Republicans will take control back of the House, maybe the senate, and they will shut down the House investigation into the biggest criminal in American history. The trillions from the fossil fuel industry is paying for all this shit too.

Presidents Obama, Clinton, and Biden told us that democracy was at stake too.

(1,723 posts)give up so easy. This isn't a war with an end, it's a matter of maintenance. The struggle will never be over, and we need folks who are willing to stay in the game come hell or high water.
I get the frustration, but this too will pass. Think back when Republicans swept countless races across the country in the 2010 mid-terms under Obama. They called it a "conservative wave".
What happened after that? That's right, Obama got re-elected.

(19,549 posts)GOTV next cycle. I know, people hate when I say that stuff, like I'm singling them out or something, I'm not.
In the end it does matter and we had way too few people working it this year. Text, call, postcard, letters, door knock or drive folks to the polls. Do what you can, but actually be involved beyond just your one voice. We're the activist here, we're the doers, movers and shakers.
We can't just sit back and assume it's someone else's responsibility, issue or problem. We have work to do. No politician nor any court ruling will carry us home. We need to connect with other voters and impress on them how desperate the times are.
I'm not quitting. I'm fighting them tooth and nail.

(53,003 posts)If Republicans do well tonight, its in keeping with historical trends. Many voters dont see it as about democracy vs. fascism.

(7,265 posts)maybe you're watching and/or listening to tv and radio?
I strongly urge you to cut the chord now, avoid radio and television all together even streaming.
I've been on a personal boycott of all media except DU. I have friends who texted me during last night's results reportage and texted me only the good news. This morning, I've skimmed and read through reportage threads here, and I think I've taken an accurate measure, and the news isn't all bad at all. in fact it's far better than I expected.
And it appears to be hopeful still.
So, take this for it's worth, please. And turn OFF the tv or streaming. Just check in here for the most important races.
You're not in Florida are you? . If so, I sympathize greatly.
