have won or lost based on Twitter (unless the info. is being tweeted from reputable sources)!
It's frustrating to me and then gets my hopes up only to see it's not an "Official" projection. My sense is that it's frustrating to others' as well.....

(34,402 posts)Significant upset. This was Herrera-Butlers (R) seat until she voted against Trump on impeachment and was driven out. The Dem defeated a MAGA.

(8,009 posts)Reported on MSNBC: Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has just been the projected winner over Republican Joe Kent! (Washington 3rd district).
.....An upset.....

(8,009 posts)The News stations, The A.P., NPR (I'm sure there are others' that I'm not thinking of).
But NOT Twitter posters who, while they may be incredibly knowledgeable, don't have access to the actual counts (at least that's my understanding unless you know something I don't).

(7,833 posts)Wasserman actually helps crunch the numbers at the NBC News Decision Desk on Election Day and Ralston is the foremost expert on elections in Nevada (hence why you see him on all the news networks, most often MSNBC) and, yes, both do have access to the data and both do their own analyses about when to call the race.
Upthevibe
(8,009 posts)I know about Wasserman and how highly regarded he is. I didn't know that the three people you mentioned are actually tabulating the numbers.
Having said that, it would be surprising to me that they're declaring candidates victorious before the news shows have.

(7,833 posts)The news shows called that race later on in the day.
The big news networks and even the print media (e.g., NYT, AP, etc.) are usually the last to call them since they have to be especially careful because their reputations are on the line.
Having said that, Wasserman has a history of being just as correct as those other reputable sources, and that's why if he calls a race, I have full faith that it is the correct call.

(8,009 posts)I think what makes me shaky is the 2000 sElection. And, almost to your point, the news desks got it wrong (Oh how we remember) that night. Having said that, IMHO that has made them be even MORE careful now.
But I get what you're saying. I'm just not going to have a full sigh of relief until the networks call the race. John Ralston is a legend in my sister's eyes (who's more knowledgeable than I regarding all things politics). She felt quite safe about Nevada but still wasn't completely relaxed. However, she did talk me off the ledge more than once over this past week.

(36,243 posts)I see the same thing when lurking at Free Republic. People there quoting excerpts from and linking to fringe sites. Doesn't matter if what's reported is accurate or true as long as what's stated is something Freepers want to believe is true.
We accept as normal Magahats getting their news from La-La Land but we should strive to refrain from doing that ourselves.

(7,270 posts)It's been a point of frutration to me as well. It's one thing to hope, but when announcemnts of victory before it is official is harmful.
I wish those posts would be removed by mirt if needs must.
I fell for a couple of earlier posts of victory when votes are still in the process of being counted in tight races, I had to take the time to trash those threads after the fact. it feels disrespectful to du readers, imo.

(4,170 posts)But many of the Twitter lovers here do not care.
I saw a fake post stand for several hours the other day, despite many pointing out it wasn't true.
The OP apparently found it amusing.

(296,780 posts)posting that Adman Frisch won and many of us were celedbrating and that turned out not to be true.
He's behind now but still not out.. BUT the reports here were that he WON & we were actually celebrating So that made me wary of anything that wasn't Officially Called.
I was so disappointed.
