General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe pressure on people like Eastman and Meadows is going to be incredible, it already is.
Prosecutors are going to indict them for every possible charge they can find. They will be pressured to tell all or face many, many, years in prison.
People may debate whether or not Trump will be indicted. I have no doubt people like Eastman and Meadows will be indicted, pressured to talk. So many people, scores of people, were involved in the Coup of Fools. The DOJ has many targets to aim at. It would not be unusual for people to turn on other people in order to save themselves. It would not be unusual for some people to be granted immunity in order to compel their testimony. Testify or go to jail.
When indictments come I expect things to snowball quickly. The Coup of Fools involved to many people in their Coup of Fools.

I think Cipollone and Herschmann might be too.
They both went along up to a point.

(455 posts)If Republicans somehow engineer to take the Presidency in 2024, they will pardon their new hero/martyrs. That is, if the cases have even made it to a conviction and through appeals. This is why some people here, myself among them, are skeptical about the pace at which the DoJ is moving; I understand the DoJ wants to win each of the cases, but failure to "move up the food chain" fast enough will constitute overall failure.

(2,058 posts)How many news cycles will be dominated by Hunter Biden's laptop, while the indictments start rolling out? Hopefully that BS doesn't gain enough traction to affect the 2024 elections.
Politics being politics, now that they have control of the house, they will be full speed ahead to try and throw shit up against the wall to see what sticks as they fuck over our side.
That said, from all indications, Jack Smith is a very bright experienced capable prosecutor and he will be going full speed ahead to start dragging these assholes into court and getting them to flip on his Majesty the Orange laughing stock.
They will have their loudmouth clown who cant seem to shut his mouth, going 100 miles an hour trying to disparage everything about our party. The infamous Gym Jordan will have his moment in the sun, but most of the Republicans over time will get tired of listening to that little yapping terrier, as he keeps barking away like the fool that he is.

(7,431 posts)the excitement and enthusiasm of Trump's probable demise at the hands of Robert Mueller. It's now just a visceral reaction I have toward going full-on "Jack Smith comes to town." So far, Jack Smith has done nothing. Let's remember the Mueller experience. Yes, of course, Mueller had Trump breathing down his neck and he had Bill Barr sitting on his head (and that's a ton of weight!). There's reason to suspect that Mueller feels a sense of shame at doing the "special prosecutor" role while having his wings clipped to the bone. Smith won't have those restraints, so at least that's something positive.
As for Jordan, we should expect that he'll be on the hot seat for his participation in the coup CONSPIRACY, otherwise termed a RICO charge. Smith either targets Jordan and about 8 other Congresspersons, or he's giving a wink and a nod toward another coup attempt. He hasn't much of a choice. But, of course, the biggest catch for Smith will be the head of the snake. Decapitate the snake and it dies. After that, Smith's next set of targets should include Bannon and some of the Fox News conspirators. But it's all in the mix and Smith is in the kitchen.

(912 posts)as you say. It seems like chances diminish for any indictment not brought in the next three months. After that, civil cases have much better chances than criminal cases imho. My concern is more about defunding investigations and trials in 2024.

(9,778 posts)1. A figurehead, or cult leader. These are interchangeable, since they are massively flawed people, and get their come-uppance sooner or later. Unfortunately for us, they really are interchangeable. Slay the dragon in front of you, not the ailing one by the side of the road.
2. A cadre of really evil bastards, worse than any James Bond villain. They persist, being mostly under the radar, and propagate their own in "academies" of hate, racism, division and greed. (referring to the OP, Eastman, Meadows ... The Flynn-Stones[1])
3. Useful idiots who will eagerly sacrifice their own good, health, jobs, friends and even country in service of fascist demagoguery and the cults they conjure. Like other cults, they are hard to escape or help people escape from. Entirely self-defeating. They are like what road signs should read:
THE INCONVENIENCE YOU EXPERIENCE TODAY WILL LEAD TO A MUCH GREATER INCONVENIENCE IN THE FUTURE, IN FACT, A CATASTROPHE.
"Bring on the catastrophe" (or apocalypse), but pay the cult leaders in cash today.
"Before midnight tonight", as they say.
