Mon Jan 9, 2023, 07:28 PM
Jan 2023
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is reviewing a batch of potentially classified documents found in the Washington office space of President Joe Biden’s former institute, the White House said Monday.

Special counsel to the president Richard Sauber said “a small number of documents with classified markings” were discovered as Biden’s personal attorneys were clearing out the offices of the Penn Biden Center, where the president kept an office after he left the vice presidency in 2017 until shortly before he launched his 2020 presidential campaign in 2019. The documents were found on Nov. 2, 2022, in a “locked closet” in the office, Sauber said.

Sauber said the attorneys immediately alerted the White House Counsel’s office, who notified the National Archives and Records Administration — which took custody of the documents the next day.

“Since that discovery, the President’s personal attorneys have cooperated with the Archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are appropriately in the possession of the Archives,” Sauber said.

A person who is familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly said Attorney General Merrick Garland asked U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch to review the matter after the Archives referred the issue to the department. John Lausch was appointed to his post by former President Donald Trump.

Also, what wes being stored? His VP schedule? Official Travel Documents
and Expense Reports? Personal correspondence as VP? Those items would be classified at a low level at the time they were applicable.
Not excusing anything, but there are levels of classification for documents, and an itinerary schedule identified as FOUO is definitely not the same as a TS-SCI communication document outlining asset resources.

If the GOP does try to make a big deal of it they are implicitly admitting that TFG did something wrong, too - even worse because he took the documents intentionally, refused to give them back, lied about them, and didn't secure them. So after some initial huffing and puffing they'll probably decide to let the matter drop.

And even worse, because of instead of cooperating he refused to return the docs, hid some of them and claimed they were his? Classified documents from Biden's time as VP discovered in private office, source says
Several classified documents from President Joe Biden’s time as vice president were discovered last fall in a private office, a source with knowledge of the matter tells CNN.

The National Archives has referred the matter to the Justice Department for further investigation, the source told CNN.

Biden’s lawyers found the government materials in November while closing out a Washington, DC-based office that Biden used as part of his relationship with the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an honorary professor from 2017 to 2019, the source said.

Fewer than a dozen classified documents were found at Biden’s office, the source said. It is unclear what the documents pertain to or why they were taken to Biden’s private office. Federal officeholders are required by law to relinquish official documents and classified records when their government service ends.

101. CNN rushed to scandalize new reporting on classified documents found at former Biden office
Tue Jan 10, 2023, 09:03 PM
Jan 2023

CNN has become a clone of Fox News under the new management team

https://www.mediamatters.org/cnn/cnn-rushed-scandalize-new-reporting-classified-documents-found-former-biden-office

fter news broke that classified documents from his vice presidential days had been found in President Joe Biden’s former office, CNN rushed to sensationalize the story and drew inaccurate parallels to the FBI’s retrieval of documents held by former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

On Monday night between when the news broke and 11 p.m., CNN dedicated 1 hour and 47 minutes of coverage to the story, more than sevenfold MSNBC’s 14 minutes of coverage and over three and a half times Fox News’ 29 minutes.

?VersionId=q0Od_MhkIqtM2D8AfOdrGSidRsSBPo2o

One particularly poor example in CNN’s programming came just before prime time, on Erin Burnett OutFront. As the story was breaking, anchor Erin Burnett emphasized that Biden was legally required to return the documents when his term as vice president ended in 2017. Burnett pointed out the differences between the FBI seizing documents at Mar-a-Lago following a court-approved search warrant and Biden’s legal team immediately turning over the documents to the National Archives when they found them. But CNN’s coverage implied hypocrisy on Biden's part by playing a September 2022 clip of the president rhetorically asking “how anyone could be that irresponsible” in regard to Trump withholding classified material at Mar-a-Lago. CNN also included an image of the classified documents found by the FBI at Trump’s residence during the segment without providing context, potentially misleading viewers.

From the January 9, 2023, edition of CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront

Burnett then brought out CNN correspondent Jamie Gangel, who while mentioning the differences between the Trump story and Biden’s, framed the news as “a political nightmare for the Biden administration” and “politically something that the Republicans and Donald Trump are going to make hay in.”

In response to a question from Burnett about “how much of a gift” and how “transformational” the new story is for Trump, Gangel stated that this is “a huge political gift for Trump." And despite the distinct differences between the documents found at Trump’s home and Biden’s office, Gangel posited that “it is going to be very important for Justice [Department], and as much as the National Archives plays a role here, to really let the public know what was in here. Is that nuance going to cut through? I don’t think so.”

A US attorney is reviewing a handful of classified documents found at President Joe Biden's former office in Washington, CBS News reported Monday.

In a statement, Richard Sauber, special counsel to President Biden, said the White House is cooperating with the National Archives and the Justice Department on the matter.

"The documents were discovered when the president's personal attorneys were packing files housed in a locked closet to prepare to vacate office space at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, DC," Sauber said. Biden held a position at the center, run by the University of Pennsylvania, from 2017 to 2019.

The documents "were not the subject of any previous request or inquiry by the Archives," Sauber noted and were immediately handed over to the record-keeping agency.

Archives weren't looking for them. So curious. Does the Archives have their own classification system? Like "holy cow why is this doc missing" vs. "No big deal" docs.

Just asking like a plain ole thinking human being.

The FBI didn’t have to get warrants to find them.

The FBI didn’t have to execute any warrants.

of differences. But we're talking about people who didn't even think there was anything wrong with trump inciting 1/6, an lying like there's no tomorrow. They would never get the difference between an honest mistake and a crime.

The distinctions are obvious. Anyone who chooses to ignore them already had their mind made up anyway. This does not move any needle.

Biden in about 3 months, all the while throwing out trumps case.

I hope I'm kidding, but it looks like Teflon don strikes again. Never, ever will this guy face consequences for anything in his life.

This story will probably shut down the document investigation on him. Way way way to convenient on the timing of this!
