AZ-GOV: How bad a candidate was Kari Lake? This bad.
There’s now compelling evidence this happened on a large scale in Arizona in precisely the races we thought.
The Arizona Republic this weekend highlighted a study of voting in all-important Maricopa County, which accounts for about 60 percent of the state’s electorate. It’s from a group called the “Audit Guys,” which includes a data analyst for the state Republican Party. The study showed that Lake, Masters and other statewide candidates like secretary of state hopeful Mark Finchem lost a significant number of votes from voters who otherwise backed mostly Republicans. Those voters didn’t just skip those contests, mind you; they voted in large numbers for Democrats. And in some cases, including Lake’s, that appears to have been decisive. In her case, there were nearly 40,000 voters who didn’t vote for her but otherwise mostly voted Republican across 14 other contests. And about 33,000 of them voted for now-Gov. Katie Hobbs (D). (Some didn’t vote or cast ballots for write-in candidates.) That crossover vote is about double Lake’s overall, 17,000-vote margin of defeat. Given that Hobbs suffered many fewer defections — only about 8,000 mostly Democratic voters didn’t vote for her, and only about 6,000 voted for Lake — it suggests that the imbalance was decisive. Lake lost by about 27,000 votes among what can loosely be defined as crossover voters. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/01/23/maricopa-county-2022-votes/

18. I bet a lot of Repugs privately wish she had been whiter
And this is why - unlike Failin' Palin - we're unlikely to hear much more from Toxic Lake in the future.
A loser and colored? No third strike needed; she's out, as far as most Republicans are concerned. |

2. Fascist with bad ideas expects - feels entitled - to be elected in a democracy
Funny thing about democracy. You have to be popular to win office, and in an honest election, the people have the final say.

4. she was probably following her mentor's example
trump said McCain was not a war hero because he was captured. Did not cost him in any significant way as far as votes. She probably thought the same thing but did not count on trump fatigue.

9. I'll tell you what really bothers me about people like her...
From what I’ve been made to understand, she was a “Obama Democrat“ before. This means that she has absolutely no core belief other than in her self. Because she’s quite frankly, an attractive candidate, if she had just been a little less insane she probably would have won the election. It amazes me that considering the importance of the seat to the Republicans, that some grandmaster of political science consulting wasn’t brought in to tell her not to insult McCain supporters among other nutso things which she said.
Contrast that with the meticulously run Josh Shapiro campaign in Pennsylvania, which was so incredibly disciplined that he did not make a single tactical mistake. As far as I could see, and the fact that an elected governor in Pennsylvania is an observant Jew is fairly remarkable. And yes I know: Ed Rendell and Milton Shapp were as well and of course Senator Arlen Specter, but they made certain that their religion was never mentioned publicly. |

16. This article shows AZ is not really purple.
Republicans would have won all the state races if they had non Trump candidates. The only non Trumper was the state Treasurer and she won by 12 points. Republicans won the all the down ballot races.

21. The most disturbing thing in that article
was that 6,000 Democrats voted for Kari Lake. It gives you a good idea of how many vote for name recognition without knowing anything about the candidate.
