I was at my local Italian restaurant last night. At the table sitting next to me, there was an older guy, and literally everything that came out of his mouth was a Fox News talking point. I mean everything. Then as we're paying and getting ready to leave, I hear the guy say this:
"Did you hear that the democrats are going to impeach Kamala Harris and appoint Gavin Newsom to the vice presidency? And then Biden will announce his retirement?"
I visibly both eye rolled and facepalmed. Like Stanley from the Office. Nowhere could or would this happen, and it's quite possibly one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Fox News is actively making people stupid.

(9,090 posts)while rw radio - much louder, extreme, and locally coordinated as well, gets a free speech free ride.
what usually happens is most of these conspiracies and alternate realities get the groundwork repetition on hundreds of radio stations first. then when tucker looks you straight in the eye and repeats it it has cache, and he can say it with certainty the sex on the wrong brain authoritarians love
all Americans have to do to be rid of fox is stop giving rw radio a free speech free ride - digitize it with AI

(99,912 posts)Doesn't matter if it's satellite TV, AM radio, satellite radio, internet podcasts, you name it. I like to think of right wing media as a perfectly competitive market. There's literally thousands of shows out there and they all sell the same bullshit. They don't call it an "echo chamber" for nothing!

I have done this a few times now

(32,340 posts)Not even Faux Noise is that stupid. Besides, they wouldn't say it out loud on TV.
They wouldn't want to give away the idea, just in case "the libs" are watching.

(6,002 posts)You need congressional approval to both impeach the vice-president, and replace them with a new one. Which house republicans are in on it?

(12,410 posts)The whole classified docs thing is a setup to force Biden to resign, thereby making Harris the new President. And since its AFTER the 1/2 way point of his term, she could run in the next two elections.

The MSM is making stupidity acceptable.
I suggest a reading of Andy Borowitz's insightful and brilliant "Profiles in Ignorance" to see how CNN and other news organizations spent decades creating the likes of Trump, Bush, Qualye, Palin and the like, with Trump being the most ignorant and least educated and most morally withered example of this set of fools in chief.

(63,084 posts)They had Fox on at high volume the whole time but otherwise seemed like normal, functional human beings.
It's amazing that anyone can watch that constant barrage of bullshit and see it as anything other than what it is. The non-stop, breathless-to-11 outrage is an obvious farce, yet people swallow it, believe it, and internalize it as fast as they can.
I grow less receptive to claims that this person or that person "wasn't like that until they started watching Fox News." More and more I'm convinced that such people had some predisposition to such bullshit thinking and simply dove in head-first once they found the mother lode of bullshit.
