A nine-year-old girl who had a neighbor call the police on her as she worked to eradicate invasive insects from her home town has earned honors from one of the USs most prestigious universities.
The Yale School of Public Health earlier this month held a ceremony citing Bobbi Wilsons efforts to rid Caldwell, New Jersey, of the spotted lanternfly, according to university officials.
The 20 January gathering also recognized Bobbi for bestowing her personal collection of lanternflies to Yales Peabody Museum, which entered the collection into its database and listed the child as the donating scientist.
An assistant professor at the public health school, Ijeoma Opara, told those at the ceremony that she organized the event to bring attention to Bobbis bravery and how inspiring she is.
Yale doesnt normally do anything like this, Opara said, according to the university. This is something unique to Bobbi.

(3,557 posts)As a father to two very nerdy daughters, I can only imagine how proud Bobbi and her family must be.
I hope she remains inspired and ends up pursuing a career in science and engineering. From my own personal experience, such work is not only extremely rewarding, but science and engineering jobs tend to be an easy way to achieve an upper-middle class living.
Shes not even my daughter, but Im beefing with pride.
