General Discussion

I have held a grudge against the majority of the media outlets for both spending way too much time covering Trump during the 2016 election and allowing him to ridicule the media in general all the while letting Fox kiss his ass. The rest of the media hasn't given up on this dynamic and we might just see it all again in 2024. I'm sick of it.
The crazier Trump gets, the more free coverage he gets. The more free coverage he gets, the more people tune into his message. The more people tune into his message, the more people end up voting for him.
Trump is like a drug to these media outlets. They all want to be the first to report that he made a racial, misogynist, hateful, statement about whoever and the media eats it up. All the while, Trump is openly condemning them as the enemy of the people. This game only works if you participate.
Here's an idea... STOP FUCKING COVERING THIS ASSHOLE THAT IS BOTH USING YOUR NEWS OUTLET AS FREE ADVERTISING AND CONDEMNING YOU AS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!
It's that simple. Stop hiding behind the silly idea that all news is worth reporting.

(21,550 posts)in 2016 they were breathlessly covering him because they were rooting for him to say outrageous things, and hoping fights would break out. way better for ratings than someone droning on about free trade and international policies.
it becomes a chicken and the egg effect, where the media reports on how his movement and following keeps growing without even acknowledging that the reason he gets all the attention is because the media is covering him more than anyone else.

NEW YORK (AP) CBS and its former president, Leslie Moonves, will pay $30.5 million as part of an agreement with the New York attorney generals office, which says the networks executives conspired with a Los Angeles police captain to conceal sexual assault allegations against Moonves.
Under the deal announced Wednesday by Attorney General Letitia James, the broadcast giant is required to pay $22 million to shareholders and another $6 million for sexual harassment and assault programs. Moonves will have to pay $2.5 million, all of which will benefit stockholders who the attorney general said were initially kept in the dark about the allegations.
At least one of those executives one of the few privy to an internal investigation sold millions in dollars of stock before the allegations against Moonves became public, which the attorney generals office said amounted to insider trading.
As a publicly traded company, CBS failed its most basic duty to be honest and transparent with the public and investors. After trying to bury the truth to protect their fortunes, today CBS and Leslie Moonves are paying millions of dollars for their wrongdoing, James said in a statement, calling attempts to mislead investors reprehensible.

(21,856 posts)they spend almost the entire hour covering him in one way or another. I have to turn it off. I'm sick of the expert panels all speculating on what if's. I'm so sick of it.
there are loads of other stories going on in the world.... but we never hear about them unless we watch BBC World News or find other outlets.

(12,226 posts)over heard the news that hubby was watching and shook my head. No mention about his criminal actions but all sugar and cream about how he is the front runner for the GQP and what he needs to do.
Fuck that.

(2,910 posts)it's the rich oligarch owners of the media. Only a few corporations own the vast majority of broadcast, cable, online and print. And outlets like NPR are afraid of offending funders, so they mainly go with fluff.
Gee, I remember when a newspaper took down Nixon.
They'll give the reich wing ots of coverage. It's in their interests.

(9,726 posts)to stop covering the former guy, try convincing your fellow DU'ers to refrain from mentioning him for, say, a 12-hour period. Wouldn't it be nice to visit Democratic Underground and talk about nothing but Democratic ideas, principles, and policies for 12 hours? Or even six hours? If we can't stop talking about the Monster ourselves, how on earth can we convince others to do so? *sigh*
It will never happen.
