https://democraticunderground.com/100217755076The angry fool won his school board election - by six votes. I did my part. I worked hard to GOTV.
This is how people like Trump get their start. This is why we need to vote in large numbers in ALL elections.

(34,105 posts)that is awful. It sucks to lose under any circumstances, especially after all your effort, but to that guy? So sorry.

(70,078 posts)i wonder how many of these loons get a taste of bureaucracy and realize its not gonna play out like they thought. i bet many just give up.
People run for school board and then get there and find out what a job it ACTUALLY is. I know from personal experience. It is a ton of work, for little to no pay, and no matter what you decide, most people are unhappy. Hell bail or get a clue once hes on there.
Thank you for trying!

(2,357 posts)Yoho, came right out and admitted to NPR that he was running for Congress so that he could have a decent retirement. Didn't really care about doing the job. Some of these lay-about drumpsters just want to be "important" and get a regular paycheck.
TY for your efforts.

I didn't quite understand what she meant (and still dont), but she has turned out to be prescient.

(22,250 posts)Following Nixon's Southern Strategy, they started infiltrating school boards and city councils, then those folks worked their way up into state government and eventually to Federal level
Democrats were not paying attention in those states and let them get away with it.
It took them 20 -25 years; it was a Long Con!!!

(30,733 posts)They are trying to get in around here by using school board and library board positions. Then they wreck the place with right wing ideology and laws. Nearby, a mayoral candidate won that is going to give everyone on our side of the aisle fits! They appoint a lot of local positions, like library board members. Then, let the censorship begin!

(81,220 posts)Wretched power-hungry attention-whore of years ago in SoCal. She started her climb to broad based notoriety by running for, and winning, a seat on the L.A. school board.
Gotta concede - that was a VERY shrewd move.
1) it gives you a title, a veneer of respectability and credibility, and a platform.
2) it gets you access. Access to powerful or potentially-powerful people who might be useful Allies in the future.
3) you become perceived as someone with a level of local power and influence. You become Somebody. Somebody to be taken more seriously.
4) first, the school board. Next? City council? State office? How bout Congress?
Thats where Bobbi Fiedler started aiming, and by Jove she made it. She DID parlay her local victories into an eventual seat in Congress. She was BEYOND annoying. And there was no escape. She never saw a microphone or camera or podium she wouldnt whore herself for. Every doggone day, Bobbi Fiedler
Fortunately, thats where she was finally stopped. And she faded into obscurity. I remember the feeling of waking up one morning and realizing gee, we just never hear from that conniving power-seeker Bobbi Fiedler any more. Thank You, Dear God!
And let this be instructive for all of us. For ALL of us! DO something! Get OUT there! Make yourself HEARD! As my kid used to yell to get the crowd started when he and his band took to the stage: MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

(6,623 posts)1) Is there a local newspaper or radio or TV station that covers local news? Do they cover school board meetings?
2) Is there a group (even small) of people who will take turns attending school board meetings? Witnessing is very important, even though it may not seem like it at the time.
Solidarity!

I belong to an activist group. My husband and I already attend library board meetings in the community south of us. We use that library and they have a group that is aiming for LGBTQ censorship of books and spots on the board. We are watching them and speaking out.

(81,220 posts)is their opposition (folks like us) wont fight back. And that we will be neither seen nor heard, or heard from. They expect us to be lazy, apathetic, and too busy with our own lives even to care, much less to DO SOMETHING about it.
And. We. MUST. Prove. Them. WRONG!!!

And if you dont have time to research every detail, or you dont belong with an activist group or another RELIABLE (and preferably Democratic/liberal/progressive) source of that research, get on their websites! There WILL be info there to bring you up to speed. Theyll have their addresses and contact info listed. Theyll have meeting schedules. And I bet therell be somebody there whod be happy to talk with you and explain their positions on the issues or ballot measures you care about - cuz THEY will care about them, too!

(111,245 posts)and he'll have a trail of stupidity on the school board to work against him.
You did your best, and thank you for that. Next time, when you do it again, you'll have a better chance of kicking him out. These people can't help themselves, they're compelled to be total assholes.
