A Woman Cant Be President, Santorum Aide Says
Oh, Michele Bachmann, you just never had a chance, did you?
With Bachmann as the first candidate to drop out post primary, its no wonder that numerous news outlets have been replaying the what went wrong analysis. After all, she went from winner of the Ames Straw Poll to last in the Iowa caucuses in just a matter of months. She had intense focus, knowledgeable staff, a long term ground game, and even some hometown girl connections, yet she completely fizzled in the end.
Why? Because most of her potential voters believe that a woman cant be president.
Take bit from the Des Moines Register that Think Progress posted: Rival presidential candidate Rick Santorums Iowa coalitions director, Jamie Johnson, sent out an email saying that childrens lives would be harmed if the nation had a female president. [...] The question then comes, Is it Gods highest desire, that is, his biblically expressed will,
to have a woman rule the institutions of the family, the church, and the state? Johnsons email said.
The idea that women, who are not allowed to lead the household, or the church, could somehow lead the nation would be abhorrent, or at least un-Biblical, to many of the same evangelical leaders and voters that Bachmann needed to woo in order to secure a victory in Iowa. In fact, in the early days of the campaign the idea of whether Bachmann was still a proper submissive wife was even a debate question.
. . . . .

(28,017 posts)had taken over (and they had all the land from the Baltic to the Black seas, with huge parts of what is today Turkey) that every inhabitant was free to practice his or her own religion without retribution or trouble. AND, serfdom or slavery, as it was described, was not permitted. True, there was the ruling class (the Gedimin family) and everyone else, but the freedom of religion was so offensive to the Vatican (or Avignon, depending on where the parties were) that one of the crusades was directed to the Baltics.

(26,495 posts)I'd love to say I did. But it's 100% real. I think it's from the '08 primary.

(576 posts)so he asked the class if there was a difference between guys and gals.
This freshman girl (I swear I am not making this up) says, "well yeah, there is a difference. I mean, women are supposed to stay at home and just do that sort of stuff. Its sorta how its supposed to be with morals and stuff. Men are supposed to work and women arent really." So im thinking: 1. Wow you really believe this in 2011 and are willing to admit it in front of a lecture hall full of your peers?!?!? and 2. Why are you even in college then?
She seemed nice enough. But that idea is still, apparently, somewhat common.

(113,075 posts)and, referring to a first-year college student as a girl??
(there have been a number of discussions about labels the last few days)
sad to say, there are far too many young women like the one your friend mentioned-- the brainwashing going on in the churches is truly distressing.

(2,066 posts)that person to be president?? You can't be president without a penis! A penis guides and presides all on its own. Without a penis, a person is just not qualified! Obvi!
