Trump's gaffes should raise questions about his fitness for office

CNN

A Fox News poll released last week found that 52% of Americans don’t believe that 77-year-old Donald Trump has the “mental soundness to serve” as president. That same poll showed that 61% of Americans have the same concern about President Joe Biden, who is 80. But while there is extensive media coverage about Biden’s age and gaffes, Trump, for the most part, gets a pass.

For example, at a September 8 rally in South Dakota, the 2024 GOP presidential front-runner abruptly stopped mid-speech for 40 seconds as he awkwardly looked at the audience, his eyes darting around. Some of his supporters online asserted that Trump — who had just said the United States was “the greatest nation in the history of the world” — was overcome with emotion. Have you ever seen Trump overcome with emotion? It’s hard for me to buy that explanation.

Regardless of the reason for the pause, imagine if Biden had abruptly stopped a speech midway through and began looking around the audience for more than half a minute? Much of the media — and I don’t mean just right-wing outlets — would likely ask if Biden had become confused or had fallen ill, or if the teleprompter stopped working and he wasn’t mentally able to fill the time? Such a clip of Biden would probably be played nonstop on cable news and dissected by pundits and even doctors specializing in cognitive issues.

But with Trump, there was no notice, although Frank Bruni took note of his lapses into incoherence in a New York Times column last week with the headline “Trump Is Really Old, Too.”

I don't want to seem insensitive. Trump doesn't have the ability to feel emotional about anything. He's an evil malignant narcissist.

Fawning interviews, neutral tone for terrorists and fools…harsh criticism or no coverage of Democratic Party accomplishments….cause that horse don’t need any help, has to be handicapped and weighed down so the slow nag can keep pace!

CBS ABC…same thing, basically same company, riding and coaxing and whipping the same tired terrorized horse with the same old terrorist jockey to the finish line.

But they didn't. They put up a web page with some fact-checking, but as Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Inquirer noted, how many people are going to bother? I think he said 1 percent, which I thought was a generous estimate.

Nope, Welker let the defendant go off on full gish gallop, make a couple of feeble but ineffectual attempts at stopping him or correcting him, but in the end, it was every bit the lie parade people at DU predicted.

"Gaffes"????

"GAFFES"??????

What the actual fuck is going on? CNN making the "both sides" bullshit, "Oh he just had a few gaffes, so did Biden, donchaknow."

I am truly stunned by how it seems every single day brings more and more normalizing of this INDICTED FUCKING TRAITOROUS CRIMINAL.

Who took all these years to work that out?
Who is still pretending he was, is, and will be?

Trump has never been a complete person, never had the insight and intelligence to do the POTUS job.
He learnt little and left behind a trail of destruction while in the White House.

I'm thinking the polls that call this a 'close race' are rigged, and the MSM stuff going on are all designed to keep the Republican voters on their toes and willing to go out and vote next time.

Some underhanded shenanigans going on in the US at the moment. Misled, misfed, mistreated voters - time to switch off until voting time.

My suggestion - turn off MSM, ignore polls, and vote when the time comes.

So, ironically, the thing you're saying makes him unfit for public office is those rare moments when he's unintentionally being honest.

You know, the one all immigrants must pass in order to become US citizens.

The trouble is, when he scores 27%, Fox Noise will rush to his defense, because 87% of their audience couldn't score any higher.
