it's a serious question and not meant to deflect the issue. I pay what I have to. No more. I shelter my money in IRA's and other vehicles. Does that make me a 'dodger'?

I don't like this argument that someone is a dodger because they use the law to the best of their ability (or accountant's ability). If you are truly upset about what he is doing...get the laws changed and don't bitch about the PERSON...bitch about the 12,000 page tax code.

It doesn't matter that what he did/does is legal. It's an appearance of dodging his responsibility. For someone wanting to be Commander-in-Chief, it looks pretty weasily to hide your money from the defense of the country while insisting others pay the tab.

I don't disagree that the law should be changed. Merely pointing out the bad optics of his situation.

Call me cynical, but I'll bet everyone who warms a chair in the oval office has a small army of tax accountants checking their returns and at least advising on every possible legal means of reducing their taxes. As far as I've been able to tell so far, what Romney does isn't the least bit illegal, and if it's unethical, then we have a tax code that encourages unethical financial behavior.

Oh, wait....

Yeah, I can imagine it because they do it.

To be fair, I can't say Democrats don't do it, but it is a sworn task of the GOP to dodge their own taxes while pumping up those of the "peons".

On Edit:

Okay, Nixon was bad, but not stupid (and definitely an asshole), HOWEVER....

Johnson was also an asshole. I heard a correspondent on NPR (15 or so years ago) who was in the press corp at the time of the Viet Nam war. Someone asked Johnson why were even there, and he unzipped, whipped out his (quote: "rather large&quot johnson and slammed it on the desk in the Oval Office and said, "THIS is why we're in Viet Nam."

Note: That wasn't reported in the papers or on television at that time. It would be all over FOX Noise if it happened today.
