Just watched "Nuclear Aftershocks" on Frontline

Here are some things I took away from it:

There were people warning about a Tsunami the size of the one that hit Fukushima, but the warnings were ignored.

There was a similar tsunami in the year 876.

Indian Point is 35 Miles from NYC. It's up for a 20 year renewal and some people don't want it, but there aren't many good alternatives. Guiliani is supporting the renewal because he is a shill that would do anything for money.

Indian Point is "old technology" as are all US plants.

Renewables like Solar and Wind cannot produce enough energy at this time to power a city 24/7 365. Coal is sometimes used to make up the difference, but nukes work great.

Nuclear energy is clean, especially compared to coal.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is all talk and little action. But, they forced the Nebraska plant that got flooded to prepare for floods and that made the difference.

Indian Point sits on a fault line.

The Virginia earthquake hit 11 miles from the nuclear plant. The plant voluntarily upgraded earthquake defenses prior to the earthquake, but the earthquake was still more powerful. The plant held up well.

Germans hate nukes. They will shut down all their plants and replace them with renewables. Anything that renewables can't cover will be made up with coal.

Coal is bad for the environment.

US Nuke plants are old and will not be able to be renewed forever. At some point by 2050 they will likely all shut down and the US doesn't have a suitable alternative.

I recommend checking it out as with all Frontline specials.
