Right-wing construction tycoon brags he used non-union workers at Obama's convention speech site!

No union labor used at DNC speech site, contractor says
By BYRON TAU

One of the contractors responsible for building Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, N.C. is 'praising' President Obama and the Democratic Party for holding a convention event there, calling the stadium an 'outstanding example' of the free enterprise system.

Brett McMahon, president of the concrete construction firm Miller & Long DC and the spokesman for the anti-labor, pro-business group Halt the Assault, notes that the stadium where President Obama will formally accept the nomination was built by non-unionized workers.

"It is a great example of a grand monument that was built entirely union-free. Furthermore, unlike many sports facilities, there was very, very little public expenditure for the Panthers Stadium. It stands as an outstanding example of the free enterprise system at work. We are certain that the DNC will hold successful events there for their donors and delegates," McMahon said in a statement.

I believe this anti-union outburst deserves a response by the Democratic Party and President Obama and hopefully a change in venue for Obama's convention speech. BBI

At least that's what one poster said of the OP, like their is some fucking elitist hierarchy that we're apparently not privy to. People talk about equality, but when it's time to walk that walk...

I thought from the beginning that they should have held it in Wisconsin. It's probably damn hard to find a 100% union-made venue of that size anywhere near there. N.C. loves them some non-unionism. Boeing?

The most non-union, anti-union and anti-worker state in the entire nation!

A so-called "right-to-work" state.

Why was that done?

There were lots of alternatives.

should move out of the White House, too. The slaves who helped build it weren't exactly "union" either.

And then there's the US Capitol - non-union slave labor used there, as well. Guess it's time for everyone working there to move to more suitable quarters, too.

I think the White House was constructed a tad before then.

My point? My point is that you continue to find anything negative about this president, his administration, his party so that you can cut-and-paste it here.

And this particular one just reeks of desperation - even more so than the previous ones.

But now that you've been educated about 'election mode' rules on DU, I suppose you have a deadline looming before you, and have to do as much as you can before the axe falls.

It's much bigger than the civil war executive mansion of 150 years ago.

And the city is much bigger!

Really!

However, your post is way off the topic of discussion.

Please follow DU posting rules on this matter.

Thank you.

Your OP is about Obama appearing in a venue constructed by some non-union labour.

But when I pointed out that the WH and the Capitol were built in part by slaves (VERY non-union workers), you respond with a pitiful statement about the WH being "worked on, upgraded and expanded several times".

"Please follow DU posting rules on this matter."

The DU posting rules will be changing very shortly, when election mode kicks in. I doubt you'll be very happy when that happens - and your anti-Dem/anti-Obama cut-and-pastes will no longer be permitted.

that the White House and the Capitol building were constructed using slave labor (non union) - and asked if you thought those buildings should be not be used on the same basis that the B of A stadium should not be used.

YOU continued that line of discussion by saying the WH has used union labor since the FDR administration - then went on further to state that the WH has been "expanded and renovated" using union workers.

But backed into a corner of your own making, you NOW state that my original remarks were off topic. If you thought that was the case, why did you continue the discussion I had originally introduced as part of this topic?

It seems you only came up with that idea AFTER you realized you had nowhere else to go.

I look forward to your next cut-and-paste of equal importance to this one - in other words, not of any importance at all.

I guess I'd rather figure they're evil than think they're disconnected morons. Again having only a choice of the lesser of two evils, being evil is better than being moronic, at least the evil person has a chance to change his position, a moron can't.
