Well I think he did.
Now here ladies and gentlemen the original with lyrics
My friend Peter Bergman of the Firesign Theatre once said "If we could only teach our politicians to sing... they wouldn't lie so much"
Then he sang "I am not a crook .. Oh yes I am ... Yes I am .. I am a crook!!" In that decending low baritone that he has.
I like my President I dislike my President but when he sings that line.. It is so appreciative, so romantic, so politically charged.. He is brilliant.

(7,349 posts)I smiled. And I'm going to vote for him, but not because of the song, i was going to do that anyway. I'm not crazy, just pissed.

(24,589 posts)just totally. One of the cutest things I've ever seen, and undoubtedly one of the cutest things a US President has ever done.
Hope it goes viral.

(37,540 posts)he goes out and proves just how cool under fire he is. The man exudes self confidence and character. What a contrast to the "issues" candidates that the Republicans are saddled with. The contrast couldn't be greater. This clip is going to get a lot of airtime...

(1,555 posts)The fact that he can have fun like that and laughingly engage the audience just endears him to me even more. Thanks for the laugh & the original song - it's a classic!

Many just hear the President singing to show the "Apollo" audience he's one of them.
But listen to the words he chose to sing and bring in from left field the political context of the President's timing and you'll see what appears to be coincidental is not.
Most Republicans who see the Apollo footage will know that they don't like it but see nothing else going on.

(37,955 posts)I'm a good singer but I don't know if I would ever be capable of gathering the courage to sing even a portion of one of the greatest pops songs in history, in front of the man who wrote it and (with a nod to Tina) can sing the hell out of it.
